According to this Tech.co.uk article by James Rivington Nokia is super-duper excited about the upcoming iPhone. Nokia CEO Rick Somonson said that the iPhone could "raise the profile of smartphones and boost the market as a whole". Translated, this presumably means that Apple is charging way too much and if they get away with it Nokia can follow suit.
In related news, Coke just wuvs Pepsi, McDonalds is grateful for Burger King's latest offerings and, um, you might want to check your wallet.

If you've been gnashing your teeth as more and more Office 2007 files come your way from your innocent, early-adopter Windows colleagues and friends, time to quit your gnashing. Microsoft's beta of the mellifluously named Microsoft Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac can now be downloaded from the big M's website. This initial version of the standalone converter tool supports Word 2007 files and is one-way: the resulting RTF output can be resaved as Office 2004 .doc files, but not as Office 2007 .docx files. Support for the newfangled PowerPoint and Excel document formats will be coming later this summer.

This track comes from Chrisette Michele, who's getting plenty of attention as a vocalist thanks to her appearances on recent records from Jay-Z and Nas. "Your Joy" is something a bit different. Here, Michele is backed mainly by an acoustic guitar. This is a moving, sweet tune that gathers momentum once the orchestration falls in toward the end. Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Canción de la Semana. Reggaetón's roots in Jamaican dancehall are represented in full on this track from MC/singer Notch. Although the staggered, loping drum style is all reggaetón, his vocals utilize the deep, rhythmic pulse of dancehall. For this week's Discovery Download, we focus on the blues. To be more specific, the electric style perfected in the Chicago area. Magic Sam was an early key player in the scene that brought us Otis Rush and Buddy Guy. When the MacBook was first introduced, the difference between a black model and a mid-ranged white one was 20GB of disk space and $200US. Today, you can configure a middle-of-the-road white model to exactly match a top-of-the-line black model, and the difference is $125US.
Last May, we asked the poll question: "Will you buy a black MacBook?" and the results were as follows:
- 48% of respondents said "I'm tempted"
- 30% said "No way in heck"
- 22% just can't wait, declaring, "I simply must have it!"
