- SimpleMovieX: QuickTime Pro replacement
As should be clear from our many posts about it, QuickTime Pro offers some pretty nice basic editing features for $30. Nonetheless, you might think there is room for another low-end video editing application for the Mac, precisely because QuickTime Pro is so centered around the MOV container and Apple favored codecs like H.264. In a cross-platform world much of the video you might run across, and want to edit, won't be in Apple favored formats. Though QuickTime Pro may be able to handle many of these through separate codec plugins, SimpleMovieX has the advantage of having native support for the common MPEG and AVI formats, which allows you to edit, split, and merge AVI files encoded with DivX. The SimpleMovieX developers have a comparison page that lays out the differences to QuickTime Pro. SimpleMovieX is well worth a look for simple video editing needs, particularly without the need for transcoding.
SimpleMovieX is the same $30 as QuickTime Pro, but unlike the latter a demo is available for download.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Playlist magazine tells us that the graphic novel is being reinvented for the iPod. The Many Worlds of Jonas Moore combines live action video with computer animation and other media. Due to be released this summer, it brings the "graphic novel" to a new place.
"Jonas Moore" still has the traditional comic book look (as you can see here) but it will also leverage the iPod's multimedia capabilities.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Filed under: Accessories, Hardware, Macbook Pro
The ExpressBox1 from Magma is a cool accessory for MacBook Pro owners that allows you to add a standard desktop PCIe card to your notebook via the ExpressCard/34 slot. It consists of a powered external enclosure for a PCIe card (either half or full length) together with a cable to an ExpressCard module that fits into the MacBook Pro. The "no latency" bandwidth is 2000Mpbs allowing you to run variety of external cards, even PCIe graphics cards (provided the drivers are available).
All this coolness comes at a price, however; the ExpressBox1 is $729 for the half-length and $749 for the full-length enclosure.

Apple was one of several Internet stocks trading higher yesterday including Real Networks and Amazon.com. So will investors continue to hold onto their AAPL stock or will they cash out for profit? TUAW remains completely agnostic on the matter so we turn this over to you. What are your thoughts, stock-investing readers?Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
