  • EA to release four new iPod games

LC Angell over at iLounge has discovered that EA plans to release four new iPod games this year. He links to this SeekingAlpha transcript of EA's recent Q4 07 Financials conference call.

In the transcript, EA's Warren C Jenson actually mentions five games intended for cellular handsets including one, Sims Bowling, specifically for the iPod--perhaps he meant iPhone? The other four for cellular handsets are ESPN Fishing, Harry Potter, Sims Bowling, and Bejeweled Multiplayer.

As of now you can buy EA's Sudoku, Tetris, Mini Golf, Mahjong, and Royal Solitaire at the iTunes store for five bucks each. These games work on the 5G and 5.5G video iPods.

  • Is the iPhone too small for advertising?

The New York Times tells us that Hollywood seems to love tiny screens like iPods and iPhones but that advertisers don't... Yet.

Even though iTunes TV and movie sales are soaring, advertising dollars have been slow to migrate to these platforms. In 2006, just $421 million was spent on mobile phone advertising across all platforms. Compare and contrast with the $48 billion spent on broadcast television. If you're wondering why we don't see more free, advertising-sponsored shows and movies on iTunes yet, these low numbers tell you why. Advertisers don't seem to grasp what an amazing captive audience iPod and iPhone users are and will be.

When the iPhone debuts, expect to see this trend change. "The iPhone is going to shake things up and make cellphone companies look like they are behind the curve. It is going to be good for us." the Times quotes Thomas Lesinski, president of digital entertainment for Paramount Pictures.

  • iTunes: Free Wednesday

The iTunes Single of the Week has finally hit the US store's front page and when I checked this morning all three US items were now finally free. Today also brings us a new free audio book chapter (Catch 22) and a short movie from Elle Fashion Stories. Glamour previously sponsored several short films.

In other news, Australia and New Zealand's SOTWs are a bit messed up. The stores keep sending "Could not complete the iTunes Store request. The store may be busy." So I've been unable to find out whether the singles are free yet or not.

Canada's, France's and the UK's free SOTWs have finally shown up. Each single seems to be correctly listed as free. Let me know if you find otherwise.

    Listings after the jump...

  • Apple updates Mac OS X Keyboard Shortcuts doc

Keyboard shortcuts are one of the finer pleasures of computing, especially on a Mac. While we've been blogging all manner of these shortcuts, especially some of the gems in Mac OS X, there is always the One True Keyboard Shortcut Document to Rule Them All; the one maintained by Apple themselves. The doc came across my RSS feeds which means that it has recently been updated, though I admittedly couldn't tell you exactly what is new. When it comes to a list of shortcuts like this, I think I exhibit the Homer Simpson syndrome, where I always learn something new that inevitably knocks out one of the older shortcuts. Take Option-Command-Right Arrow when in the Finder's List View, for example - I have no idea if that's new (though I highly doubt it; List View has been around for ages), but it expands both a folder and all of its subfolders. Option-Command-Drag (again, probably not new, but new to me) to create a file alias in a new location will also prove darn handy, as my home network is finally demanding more and more use of aliases across my machines and hard drives.

No matter how you work, taking a glance at this recently updated doc just might help you get things done a little better.
