- Spyshot: Apple Store Tulsa
Filed under: Apple Corporate, Retail, Rumors
TUAW reader Ryan sent us a photo he snapped at the Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa, OK, earlier this week. The photo clearly displays the word "Apple" in front of a store that's under construction. However, Ryan tells us that, since he took this photo, the temporary storefront has been painted black.
We checked out the retail jobs listings for Oklahoma at Apple.com and sure enough Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa is listed. Looks like you've got an Apple Store coming, Tulsa!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Software, Cool tools, Productivity, Internet Tools
Apple's Software Update is great and all, but unless you've purchased a membership to MacUpdate or VersionTracker for their software management clients, it might be tough to stay on top of new versions of all your non-Apple software. Sure, more and more developers are building in support for Sparkle, the auto-update framework from Andy Matuschak, but that's on a per-app basis and it simply isn't a development standard yet. Luckily, for the rest of us, there is AppFresh, a new utility that is perhaps best described as 'Software Update for the rest of us.' It can scan your Applications (though, for now, we suspect only apps in your main directory; not any that might be in ~/Applications if you've created it), AppleScripts, widgets and even Preference Panes to see if any updates are available. We don't know how and where AppFresh is checking for new versions, though Apple's own Downloads section and possibly MacUpdate and VersionTracker are the likely candidates.
Since AppFresh is truly brand new (only at v0.2 so far), its developers warn that it is certainly a work in progress. Still, this looks like a great tool with a lot of potential. AppFresh actually does seem to use Sparkle to help you stay on top of its own updates, and you can also read up at the development blog for more info on just where AppFresh is headed.

Filed under: iPod Family, Video, How-tos
Although many newer cars now ship with integrated iPod audio and, sometimes, video playback, retrofitting an older car can also be an easy and not-too-expensive option. Sure you can drive over to Car Toys and pay large sums of money to have a roof-mount video display system installed, or you can put your video system together on the cheap. Here's how I retrofit our minivan for relatively small amounts of money.Continue reading HOWTO: Connect your iPod to a video screen in older cars

Filed under: Hacks, How-tos, Apple TV
You say your Intel Mac has Apple TV envy? It's understandable, as the Apple TV is suddenly everyone's favorite gadget. Boost its ego a bit with this trick for "skinning" Front Row to make it look more like Apple TV's UI.
It's quite simple, really, as it's just a matter of replacing Front Row's image files with those from the Apple TV. You can even edit the default menus to display the "Apple TV" title. You can download all of the files you'll need - as well as the instructions - here (remember: Back up your resource files first!). When you're finished, it will look like the image above.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Apple Corporate, Rumors, Apple, iPhone
While Steve was quick to announce Cingular (or is it AT&T now? Who knows...) as the American carrier for the forthcoming iPhone, they're yet to line up a carrier in Europe. Market Watch is reporting today that Apple is actively courting providers, and may select Vodafone as their sole European iPhone carrier by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Google is supposedly considering Telefonica SA to carry a rumored "GPhone" in Europe.

It's Tuesday again! And time for another collection of free iTunes items. This week brings you mostly music choices, with a couple of new video tracks for US readers. As always, these selections are free for a limited time, so if you want to take advantage of the specials, make sure to add them to your cart and download them over the next week.US Music
US: Never Never by Brick & Lace
Brick & Lace are a sister duo from Jamaica who's been lucky enough to have a mentor by the name of Akon. "Never Never" is the debut single from the group and it's our free Single of the Week. The track is a booming, midtempo club tune with high-pitched synths guiding the bass lines while the sisters effortlessly trade slick, sassy vocals back and forth. Get it now before the group's debut, Love is Wicked, is released later this year.US: Espacio Sideral by Jesse & Joy
Mexico's Jesse & Joy are a brother and sister duo whose music has a very natural, organic sound. The vocals are intimate and the buoyant, roots-y rock tunes lack glossy production, sounding like the best bar band you've ever heard. "Espacio Sideral" is the duo's debut single from the album Esta Es Mi Vida. The track exemplifies the group's warmth - mixing up a bit of sing-along folk with a raucous rock 'n' roll chorus.US: Make It Easy (John Tejada Remix) by Lusine
Working under the name Lusine, Jeff McIlwain creates placid, abstract electronics that are indebted to both the earliest, streamlined techno and more recent developments in IDM. Here, a track from his 2004 album Serial Hodgepodge gets remixed into icy, metronomic, melancholic bliss by John Tejada. This week's free Discovery Download comes from the album Podgelism, a collection of remixes of the entire Serial Hodgepodge album.Free US Video and International Music after the jump...

Everyone on the Mac web is bonkers about the Apple TV, but you might recall Apple announced another product at this past Macworld: the iPhone. According to Reuters AT&T (formerly Cingular) has heard from a million people that want to be contacted when the iPhone is available (it isn't available for preorder yet, so you just have to make do with filling out this form to get emailed when it is available).
The article doesn't say whether or not this is an unusually high number of people interested in a phone's release, but I imagine it is.

Today is the big day, ladies and gents - Adobe has officially unveiled a plethora of new Creative Suite 3 packages and products, all of which are available for preorder now. With this new suite, the acquisition of Macromedia in April of 2005 has come to fruition, with all products now under the Adobe umbrella and incorporated into various new CS3 product bundles.
To aid in the selection of a new CS3 package, Adobe has created a thorough product matrix that makes even the many versions of Vista cry. To further help navigate all the new products and features, Adobe has of course revamped their Creative Suite product pages and has also posted some introductory videos to help bide the time until this afternoon's live webcast event that we mentioned earlier. The webcast begins at 3:30EST today, but don't fret if you're all booked up for the day - it will be recorded and available for streaming for the ultimate in 'pajamas-at-3-am' viewing experiences.
Preorder pricing for Creative Suite 3 packages begins at $999 for a new suite (Web Standard), and $240 for upgrades (Design Standard). The Design suites are scheduled to begin shipping in April 2007, while Production Premium is slated for Q3 2007.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
