- Dock-It: multiple Dock manager

In this week's Ask TUAW we addressed a question about adding a Dock to each screen of a multi-screen set up. In researching that question, I came across a nifty little app for doing just that called Dock-It. As you can see from my rather extreme screenshot above, it lets you set up multiple Docks and pin them to any of the four sides of the screen, including the top. And of course, you can create docks on the secondary display as well. You can also add little "Applets" to your Docks including a clock, system preferences, and a very convenient shelf (e.g. for holding files when you're moving things around with the Finder). Finally, you can browse your file system simply by clicking on one of Volumes or Folders which you've added to one of the docks.
Dock-It looks to be a very versatile piece of software and well worth its modest $10 price if you're into the idea of more Docks. The only downside I've seen in my testing is that it can quickly use quite a bit of real memory, especially if you start browsing through the file system. You should be able to buy an Apple TV at your local Apple Store very soon (I imagine if they don't have them today they'll be getting them over the weekend). What if you are one of the many folks who do not live near an Apple Store? According to CNet Best Buy has worked out a deal to get Apple TVs this Tuesday, a full 2 weeks before other retail outlets. Engadget recently tracked down this kitchen-ready iPod TV. Philip's new DCD778 offers a flip-down screen with an iPod mounting dock, Just pop in your iPod and watch it on the 8.5-inch widescreen LCD. The unit also provides a built-in ATSC/NTSC TV tuner, AM/FM radio, DVD playback and (of course!) a cooking timer.

We have previously mentioned several fun uses of the Wiimote with your Mac. The Wii Loop Machine by Yann Seznec is nifty little application for controlling music loops (similar to those in Garageband) using the Wiimote. You can select different loops with the buttons and control playback by moving the Wiimote around in space. As you can see in the video, it becomes a kind of Wii-dance, and despite being rather dorky also looks sort of fun. All of this is made possible by aka.objects developed by Masayuki Akamatsu, which also works with the Apple Remote and other devices as well.
After seeing this for the first time, I couldn't help but think that next we need a Wiimote controlled Mac theremin!

SciFi.com has posted about a new privacy screen that provides directional viewing for your iPod. It makes it harder for people to the right and left of you to watch your iPod's LCD (although, presumably, the guy right behind you on the plane can still see your pr0n or notice that you're listening to Barry Manilow). Available from iStyles, the screen overlay will set you back all of ten bucks while saving you from prying eyes.
