  • Omni Group posts OmniOutliner screencasts

OmniOutliner is arguably the Photoshop of the note-taking industry; it's endowed with a plethora of powerful abilities that are wrapped in a well-designed experience, and it wears many hats for its many users. It only makes sense, then, for the Omni crew to team up with ScreenCastsOnline to produce a series of free tutorial videos that demonstrate some of OmniOutliner and OmniOutliner Pro's key features. If you've ever needed a crash course on everything you can do with this powerful app, these videos range in topics from a basic introduction, levels and styles, columns in notes, embedding files and exactly what's so special about the Pro version.

As one would expect from a website that makes a living out of producing screencasts, these tutorials are very well produced and a great resource for users both old and new.

  • LimeWire reportedly unhappy with iTunes 7.1

A TUAW tipster who prefers to remain anonymous sent us a quick warning about a possible bad interaction between iTunes 7.1 and the P2P sharing app LimeWire:
"I work at [an Apple service provider]. Today we saw [multiple] iTunes libraries completely corrupted; looks like the culprit was Limewire not playing well with the newest version of iTunes.

All had just updated to the new version of iTunes and all had Limewire set to automatically update their iTunes library with new songs. One [library] was not salvageable, though the other two were (after much pain and suffering)."
A quick check of the Apple support fora shows two threads on iTunes/LimeWire issues; nothing yet on MacFixit. If you've had similar issues, please advise.

  • CookWare: organize your favorite recipes

Do you have too many random bookmarks to your favorite recipes, or print them out and shove the papers in a random cookbook somewhere? Ok, so maybe that's just me, but CookWare Deluxe is an inspiring bit of niche software that promises to organize all your favorite recipes (up to 64 quadrillion, in fact), in addition to a wealth of other handy food-related features.

All you have to do is drag your favorite recipes into the application, and CookWare will reformat text and change quantity abbreviations according to your preferences, making everything nice and consistent when hunting through recipes later. You can even plan meals with the built-in calendar feature, and write and organize your shopping lists, and these lists and your recipes can be exported as HTML files so you can carry them around and to the store on your iPod. Ok, I think we're getting a little food-organization-crazy now.

But seriously, the list of CookWare's features are impressively robust, and the brand new version 3.0 introduces a wealth of new features and options, and other minor enhancements. Unfortunately, I have not been able to download the program to try out myself (something appears to be wrong with the download link as I write this), but I'm looking forward to a test run. A single user license for CookWare Deluxe 3.0 rings in at $35.95.

  • Cricket team preps for World Cup with iPods

    Filed under:

We've seen iPods used to help major league baseball players improve their swings, and medical students enhance their stethoscope skills. Now, England's Cricket team has adopted the little players as well.

Players have been reviewing bowling actions - both their own as well as their competitors' - on video iPods in preparation for big matches. Rueters describes player Liam Plunkett as being "...glued to the tiny iPod screen..." as he watches the training videos.

I imagine the practice of watching film is much more pleasant when you can do it whenever and where ever you wish.
