- Revised Security Update 004 and QT CanSecWest fix released
Filed under: Software Update, Security
Those of you in the habit of waiting a week or two to apply Apple's updates may now begin to snicker in satisfaction. A revised version of the 004 security update was released this afternoon, correcting two issues (Airport problems in 10.3.9 and FTP settings on Mac OS X Server). We linked to MacFixit's troubleshooting report for the original update late last week.
Also released: QuickTime 7.1.6, which applies to both Mac OS X and Windows deployments and closes the Java exploit used to win the CanSecWest $10,000 challenge. As expected, researcher Dino Dai Zovi and the Zero Day Initiative/Tipping Point are credited with the discovery of the vulnerability. The ZDI writeup notes that the time from discovery to patch was eight days... not all that bad.

Here's another one of the take it or leave it variety. TheMacPak is a special bundle deal a la MacHeist and MacZOT. In this case, the bundle promises 10 (or 11) applications for $30, starting today. But they are only going to reveal them one at a time, with the price going up $5 each time (up to $75). The first application is online now, and involves a choice between two games from Pangea Software: Otto Matic or Pangea Arcade. They are promising "no MacHeist dupes, No MacZot Friday 13th dupes, No MacAppADay dupes, no apps with less than 4/5 on MacUpdate, no widgets" and a total bundle value of $288.86. Note, however, that serials will not begin to be emailed until June 1st and may take up to 14 days more.
TheMacPak is available for purchase now.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

EXIF, the Exchangeable Image File Format, provides a standard way to store information inside image files. Digital cameras automatically place EXIF information in your snapshots including information about the device used and its color space, among other data. Apple makes it easy for you to view this embedded information in the Finder. The Finder's Info window includes EXIF data in its More Info pane. To view, select any image file, and choose File -> Get Info in Finder (or just press Command-I). When the Info window opens, click the triangle next to More Info to reveal or hide the EXIF data.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Software, Video, Internet Tools, Apple TV
We've mentioned the SlingPlayer for Mac client several times since it was first publicly revealed back at Macworld and now Sling Media has officially released it after several months in beta. This version includes support for the Apple TV (as we mentioned before) and word on the web is that it is considerably more Mac-like than the early betas, supposedly sporting a revamped interface compliant with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines.
So if you've been interested in a Slingbox for "placeshifting" video content across the internet, now might be a good time to pull the trigger. SlingPlayer for Mac is a free download from Sling Media.
Thanks, Lee!Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

You've got a window open, any window. A Finder window, say, or in many of the built-in Apple apps like TextEdit. Ever wonder exactly which directory you're looking at? Here's a simple trick that may be new to you if you're a switcher.
See the name of your file or folder at the top of that OS X window? It usually has a small icon right next to it. Command-click the name or title in that title bar and OS X will show you the directory tree that leads down to the item you're looking at.
And if you click on a folder in that list? Finder automatically opens a new window showing that folder. Very convenient.

US Music
US: Sister Rosetta (Capture the Spirit) by Noisettes
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. This week, London's Noisettes come in and shake things up with a frantic little punk-soul explosion called "Sister Rosetta." You may not necessarily hear the influence of the great electric guitar-wielding early gospel star Sister Rosetta Tharpe in this tune, but you can hear a righteous celebration that's part early rock 'n' roll groove mixed with post-punk free-for-all. If vocalist Shingai Shoniwa doesn't became huge, we're going to start taking names and numbers.US: Tu No Me Quieres Na by Raymond Castellon
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Canción de la Semana. "Tu No Me Quieres Na" is a track taken from Raymond Castellon's album Campo Urbano. The album is a sweet mix of rock-tinged pop and reggaeton. For our pick this week, we take the pop route. "Tu No Me Quieres Na" mixes up styles, starting with a combination of rock guitar and acoustic flamenco flutters before driving forward with an accordion-based main rhythm. Castellon's smooth vocals keep all of the parts tied together. Enjoy our Canción de la Semana.US: Symphony No. 3: V. Lustig Im Tempo Und Keck Im Ausdruck by Bernard Haitink, Chicago Children's Choir, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Michelle DeYoung & Women of the Chicago Symphony Chorus
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has a reputation for outstanding Mahler recordings, so it was no surprise that when the CSO decided to launch its own record label, the CSO selected a Mahler symphony for its first release. On this glorious recording of Mahler's third, the orchestra is joined by Bernard Haitink and mezzo Michelle DeYoung for a performance of both sublime restraint and awesome power. The fifth movement is this week's free Discovery Download. If you like it, check out the rest of the album.More free items after the jump...
