- MoodSwing Quicksilver action simultaneously updates your iChat, Skype, Twitter and Adium status
Filed under: Software, Productivity, Internet Tools, Blogs
If you are a text, audio and video chatter, chances are you have some combination of iChat, Skype, Adium and a Twitter client running throughout the day. It's also possible that you're a Quicksilver junkie, which means you might appreciate Brett Terpstra's new Quicksilver script that will let you update your status across all these apps and services from the comforts of your Quicksilver window.
To get set up, download the MoodSwing script and then follow Brett's instructions at this page to install the script in the proper location for Quicksilver. There's a simple system for entering the proper status message so that it fits into all the apps you have running, but bear in mind that Brett isn't taking bug reports or offering support; this was more of a fun project that he tossed out there for the masses, so if you know some AppleScript and can improve upon what Brett has already designed, knock yourself out.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

The iSlayer crew has released a preview screenshot on the company's blog that highlights a few key features coming in v1.1 of iStat menus, their utility for keeping an eye on your Mac's various statistics from the menubar. Specifically new in this upcoming version will be network graphing, monitoring of S.M.A.R.T. hard drive temperatures, a breakdown of every temp sensor on a CPU and what looks like a significantly redesigned calendar. Stat junkies will likely appreciate these new and finely tuned features, though there's no word on when this new version will become available.
iStat menus, like every one of iSlayer's mostly statistic-obsessed products, is still provided as freeware.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

I think this past week represents the most we've ever written about a keyboard.
Apple's cryptic description of keyboard software update 1.1 - released this morning - reads:
" Install this software to use your aluminum Apple Keyboard and take advantage of the special features."
Run this installer if you're lucky enough to own one of those paper-thin keyboards, and let us know how it goes.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, OS, Software, Odds and ends, Surveys and Polls
Phill Ryu writes in to tell us that public voting has begun for the latest MacThemes contest (in which three of the themes will be chosen to win $1000 in software and become available for ShapeShifter). There are tons of entries (55, to be exact), and they all look pretty darn good in my civilian opinion.
Overall, the public is being pretty discriminating-- the highest score I can find is 3.5 out of 5. Standouts so far are Pluto, AOR, California, and Plexis, but voting just started, and it's supposed to go through next Wednesday, so I'd expect things to change between now and then.
If you're bored, head over to MacThemes and pass out a few ratings for the cause. I guess the public rating will count for half of the final score (with judges accounting for another part of the score), so every vote counts. We should see the winners sometime after the 15th.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Filed under: Software, Productivity, Internet Tools
Pukka is one of our favorite utilities for posting to del.icio.us, Yahoo!'s social bookmarking site, and an update today helps an already great utility integrate even better with the way you work. Pukka v1.6, available via its built-in update system, now offers a menubar item with complete access to your bookmarks, organized by tag. Bookmarks are now indexed by Spotlight, and accessing the list of your 'marks via the Dock icon is far snappier. There are also of course a few bug and UI fixes, and those running the latest Leopard beta (as of this writing) can now use Pukka.Комментарии к сообщению:

Filed under: Audio, Tips and tricks, TUAW Tips, iPhone
As I understand it, there are a lot of new DAPs and music-enabled mobile phones that support A2DP - a technology that allows devices to transmit stereo audio to Bluetooth headphones. It's all the rage with the kids these days, and many fans of cutting cables wherever possible were a bit disappointed when the A2DP acronym didn't make the iPhone's feature list. Thanks to a tip from TUAW reader Earle Davies though, the iPhone apparently does seem to support sending any audio - including music and the audio tracks from your videos - to a Bluetooth headset that isn't even enabled with A2DP - but it aint pretty.
To tinker with this, you of course need to have a Bluetooth headset paired with your iPhone. I personally have an older HS-850, one of the first Motorola models with a microphone that flipped open to toggle the headset on and off. After you've switched your headset on and it's shaken hands with your iPhone, go into the Visual Voicemail screen and tap the Audio button in the upper right (which is otherwise a Speaker button when your headset isn't on and communicating with your phone). You'll receive an audio selection dialog much like the in-call dialog that allows you to chose where to send the iPhone's audio. As you might guess, select the Headset option, then switch over to the iPod and begin playing music or a video. This, unfortunately, is why I had to include 'kinda' in this post's headline - while the iPhone sends audio to both Earle's Motorola H700 headset and my HS-850, it still plays audio though the iPhone's speakers as well. It's a bizarre quirk I can't seem to figure out how to stop, which makes me think this is either an unfinished feature or, perhaps more likely, simply a side effect of some of the iPhone's functionality.
Whether you can use this trick to get the iPhone to send stereo audio to a true set of Bluetooth headphones I couldn't tell you, because I own no such headphones. If you readers tinker with this more and help uncover more of what's going on here, please sound off in the comments.Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:
