- Final Cut Studio 2 tour coming to a town near you

There are lots of new features in the recently announced Final Cut Studio 2. So many, in fact, that Apple is having a Final Cut Studio 2 tour that is making stops in the following cities:
- Washington, D.C.
- Seattle
- Miami
- Hollywood
- San Francisco
- Atlanta
- Dallas
- New York City
All these sessions are free, but you do need to register (though registration isn't open yet).

One big complaint of audiophiles on the Mac platform is the limited support for FLAC, the very high quality, open source lossless audio codec. Apple, of course, prefers its own (propriety) Apple Lossless format. The X Lossless Decoder offers some help for Mac users, however. Unlike many FLAC tools on the Mac it is a Universal Binary and offers conversion from FLAC/Ogg, Apple Lossless, Monkey's Audio, Wavpack, and TTA to WAV, AIFF, PCM, Ogg, AAC, MP3 and FLAC. If you just want to play FLAC/Ogg files in iTunes, the Xiph component will allow this, but it doesn't work perfectly.
XLD is open source and a free download.

As Scott and the engadget crew at NAB noted earlier, Apple's introduction of Final Cut Studio 2 and Final Cut Server made quite a splash at the keynote presentation. Now that a bit of the dust has settled, apple.com has been updated with product details:
- Final Cut Studio product page
- Final Cut Server product page
- Studio press release
- Server press release
- Apple Store showing FCS2 with a May ship date
- Video clip of the AJA ioHD breakout unit (AJA site not updated yet)
Personally, I'm excited about Final Cut Server. Loop Rumors is reporting on a patent Apple has filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office entitled, "Multi-media center for computing systems." In short, the filing describes a "media-player with remote control capabilities" that is used to control several media devices, and even share data with those devices.
Perhaps the iPod will grow to include this capability, or maybe even the iPhone. It's also possible that the Apple Remote as we know it today may become more powerful, but it would certainly be more fun to control television with the iPhone. Heck, if my Newton can do it, the iPhone should be a cinch.

Rainy Sunday news flash: Apple's packaging acumen extends even to giveaway swag. Our friend Chris over at Autoblog thoughtfully put together an unboxing gallery for his attractive, black, size XL t-shirt from the Summit (Birmingham, AL) store opening. I might have to get one of those shirts somehow, since I used to live in a place called The Summit Hotel.
It's no iPhone, but then again, an iPhone can't keep you warm in a nor'easter. Did I mention it's raining?
