- XLD: lossless audio decoder

One big complaint of audiophiles on the Mac platform is the limited support for FLAC, the very high quality, open source lossless audio codec. Apple, of course, prefers its own (proprietary) Apple Lossless format. The X Lossless Decoder offers some help for Mac users, however. Unlike many FLAC tools on the Mac it is a Universal Binary and offers conversion from FLAC/Ogg, Apple Lossless, Monkey's Audio, Wavpack, and TTA to WAV, AIFF, PCM, Ogg, AAC, MP3 and FLAC. If you just want to play FLAC/Ogg files in iTunes, the Xiph component will allow this, but it doesn't work perfectly.
XLD is open source and a free download.

As Scott and the engadget crew at NAB noted earlier, Apple's introduction of Final Cut Studio 2 and Final Cut Server made quite a splash at the keynote presentation. Now that a bit of the dust has settled, apple.com has been updated with product details:
- Final Cut Studio product page
- Final Cut Server product page
- Studio press release
- Server press release
- Apple Store showing FCS2 with a May ship date
- Video clip of the AJA ioHD breakout unit (AJA site not updated yet)
Personally, I'm excited about Final Cut Server. Having seen a demo of the original Proximity artbox product that FCServer is built on (I'm sure about this -- the screenshot is a dead ringer) and knowing the difference between what Proximity was charging and what Apple's going to charge for the product... well, it looks like this is going to be another game changer: Mercedes-quality digital asset management at a Kia-level price point.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

It looks like the crew at Insanely Great Tees is on to something with their 'Steve Jobs for president' shirt. My wife and I decided to share the Sunday paper and a cup of coffee this morning (I know, even at 27/26, we're already getting old!), and what does she spot in the comic section? Why, a Rudy Park comic proclaiming the iPhone as "one of the greatest turning points in human history", and asking "Steve Jobs in '08?" I've honestly never read Rudy Park before, but I find it pretty funny that it's parodying the Apple-obsessed among us in this way. The fact that Steve Jobs - typically known mainly to the nerds in the crowd - has made the pages of the Sunday comic is also pretty interesting.
