- Sticky WIndows 2.0: universal and more
Filed under: Software, Productivity, Universal Binary
We last mentioned Sticky Windows over a year ago, and now finally the window clutter tab utility has finally been updated to version 2.0 as a universal binary. Sticky Windows allows you to create a tab from any window. You just drag the window to the edge of the screen and it shrinks down into the tab. You can then click on the tab to get the window back. Also new in version 2.0 are tab types: manual vs. automatic (all tabbed windows other than the foremost one automatically shrink) as well as drag and drop to the tabs (though this doesn't work with every application). The Sticky Windows site has an extremely slick flash movie that demonstrates what it does (notice the clock in the menu bar of the movie). I have to say, though, that I'm not that big a fan of the pink scaling visual effect that you see each time a tab shrinks or expands.
Sticky Windows is $20 and a demo is available from Donelleschi Software.

Filed under: Accessories, Peripherals, Odds and ends
Macworld's Mobile Mac blog has a post on cases to keep your Apple Remote safe and sound while on the go. First up is Tuneware's rather bright, red and white leather TuneRemote case with detachable clip ($20). You'll be pleased to know that the "TuneRemote is designed to be suitable for both casual and formal occasions" (I hate it when my Apple Remote case doesn't match my shoes, don't you?).
Rather more practical, perhaps, is zCover's iSA Key silicone skin case for $14.95, which includes a removable lanyard if rocking it old school iPod Shuffle style is your thing.
We've even asked before where you keep your Apple Remote. Personally, I don't worry about mine very much and I either leave it at home, or just throw it in my all purpose gadget bag and forget that it's there. What about you?Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Portables, iMac, Mac mini, Macbook Pro
A while back we mentioned that MCE was offering a tray-loading Blu-ray burner for the Mac Pro line (and older Power Mac G5s). Now FastMac is bringing Blu-ray to most of the rest of the Mac line with a slot-loading Blu-ray burner that fits the MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, as well as some older Mac portables (conspicuously missing from the list is the regular MacBook). The drive comes bundled with Toast 8, and will burn Blu-ray (50GB) and "all DVD and CD recordable media including DVD±R/RW + Dual/Double Layer, DVD-RAM, and CD-R and CD-RW." FastMac seems to suggest that the drive will play Blu-ray movies ("when you're ready to kick back and relax, enjoy the latest ultra-HD titles Hollywood has to offer"), but to my knowledge there is no available Blu-ray playback software for the Mac so I'm not sure how that's supposed to work.
In any case, the slim Blu-ray burner is available now for $799.95
