- Engadget and ads confirm iPhone on sale June 29
When Apple says 'late June' apparently they mean 'almost as late as you possibly could get and still have it be June.' Earlier today, our buddies at Engadget posted the news from a TV tipster that Apple's new iPhone ads would feature a launch date -- Friday June 29. Were they on the money? If you were watching 60 Minutes tonight, you know they were. Our Dan Lurie suggests you note carefully the small text at the end of the ad: "requires minimum new 2 year activation plan." Save those pennies!
All three of the new iPhone ads are now posted over at apple.com for your enjoyment. To all of you who were expecting an iPhone under your seats at WWDC... well, tough noogies.

We've mentioned Dockstar ($8) several times as a way to add extra badges to your Mail.app Dock icon for indicating unread message counts for mailboxes other than the inbox. Now Mail Badger appears on the scene to offer similar functionality in a nice piece of donationware. Mail Badger is a Mail.app plugin that allows you to display message counts "computed from the number of messages in a mailbox (unread, read, or total), from the number of messages that satisfy a set of conditions, or by the result of running AppleScript code." You can use custom fonts and badge images and place the badges wherever you like on the Mail.app icon.
Mail Badger is a free download from Tony Allevato, though donations are requested.

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/06/03/mailbadger-free-unread-badges-for-mail-app/#comments - Apple market cap tops $100 billion
Filed under: Cult of Mac, Apple Financial
Our favorite stock just keeps going up, and earlier this week Apple Inc. broke the $100 billion market capitalization barrier. With the stock price heading over $116 a share, the value of the company continues to climb. And analysts remain bullish, with Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty talking about a near doubling of the market cap within the next 12 months as a viable possibility. Of course this would hinge on the success of the iPhone plus expanding Mac market share, but at this point nobody wants to bet against Cupertino. Unable to deny themselves a little schadenfreude, many on the Mac web are noting that this puts Apple (~$102b at the time of this writing) well above Dell's market cap (~$61b), and closing in on HP (~$122b) and IBM (~$158b). Only Microsoft remains way out in front (~$292b).

Filed under: Multimedia, Rig of the Week
This week's rig - and we're only guessing here - is owned by a musician. Here we see a Power Mac G5, Cinema Display, LaCie external HD, speakers and a slew of recording equipment. Looks cool, ryan.gilligan, though the stickers on that beautiful Mac kind of make us cringe.
