- PhotoInfoEditor: Geocode Your Photos

It's becoming increasingly common for people to want to include meta-data with their photos about where they were taken. Geocoding is the process of adding location information to the meta-data of digital photos, similar to the Exif meta-data that nearly all digital cameras add with date, time, exposure settings, etc. There are even few digital cameras out there with built-in GPS to facilitate this. PhotoInfoEditor is a nice little utility that allows you to geocode your existing photos, either by just typing in the latitude and longitude, or even better, by marking the location on the built-in Google Map. As you can see from the screen capture above, you select the photo you want to geocode and then simply zoom into the location on the Google Map to mark it. Very slick.
PhotoInfoEditor is still a little touchy (sometimes the Google Maps don't draw correctly), but it's a nice idea, and best of all it's free (donations requested). Obviously, you have to have an active internet for this to work, but you can mark locations anywhere in the world.

It gets its magic from Mighty Optical Illusions, a blog about all things visual trickery. It's good to see two major putting down legal weapons of trademark war and setting an example for the children. Forbes is reporting that Cisco has agreed to give Apple some extra time to respond to their iPhone trademark lawsuit (perhaps they know they might not have a leg to stand on?) so the two companies can sit down and maybe work things out peacefully.
The actual discussions are forthcoming, but since Cisco is apparently still seeking interoperability, I'm betting these 'discussions' aren't going to last much longer than a 'chat.' Yesterday, I posted about the Tardis USB Hub. Today, I bring you another essential Mac peripheral, the Dalek Webcam. Like the Tardis hub, the webcam is made by Wesco Products, which seems to have a Doctor Who license from the BBC. They also manufacturer a Dalek USB Flash Memory Stick.
As many of you found out yesterday, Amazon.co.uk does not ship electronics to the US. What a shame. If you do not live in the UK, and you cannot live without Who accessorizing, it looks like eBay UK may be your best bet for purchase. Make sure to contact the seller before placing your bid to ensure that the item can ship to the US.

With all the hoopla (or lack of hoopla) surrounding the Vista release to the general public, a problem has apparently come to light with iTunes compatibility. Various folks are reporting that you cannot authorize iTunes (for WIndows) on Vista to play things purchased from the iTunes Store. We actually mentioned before Apple's customer support is confirming that iTunes is not officially compatible and they are apparently saying that a Vista compatible version of iTunes is coming "soon." Of course, when I hear things like this my first inclination is to say "get a Mac!", but at the same time it seems like Apple has had plenty of time to get a Vista compatible version of iTunes out (Vista was released to corporate customers back in November). So while it probably won't affect that many TUAW readers (except maybe in Parallels), this is yet another reason to hold off a Vista "upgrade."
