• Zune Exec leaves Microsoft

  Microsoft's Entertainment Devices division posted a $289,000,000 loss this year, as revealed earlier this week. Australian PC World reports that Bryan Lee, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Entertainment Devices division has "retired" from Microsoft to pursue personal interests. And to spend more time with family, we presume. Lee, who headed efforts within the Xbox, Media Center and Zune groups, is handing over the ropes to J Allard, corporate VP of design and development, who will take over "full responsibility for the Zune". Even the brown ones.

• iPod Stethoscope

  Okay, this is not your everyday iPod accessory. Thinklabs is bundling their ds32a Digital Stethoscope with a XtremeMac MicroMemo and a 2GB iPod nano to create a digital stethoscope recording system for $495. In fact, it looks like a pretty good deal since the stethoscope by itself runs $445 (with the same warranty).
  
  One thing I don't understand, though, is why they bundle the MicroMemo for the full-size iPod rather than the one for the nano.

• New Billy Joel single to hit iTunes on Feb 20

  Earthtimes.org reports that Billy Joel will release his first pop single in a decade and a half. "All My Life" will be available for download on the People Magazine website from February 7th, and from iTunes starting February 20th. You can also catch Joel performing the National Anthem at the Superbowl this Sunday, continuing the tradition of inviting older performers who will (probably) not enact any Janet Jackson-style half time moments.

• Tip: Quicksilver Without the Enter Key

  Hawk Wings links us to a thread on the Quicksilver forums regarding a neat little tip for the application no OS X power user can live without. You're probably familiar with the standard Quicksilver workflow for launching an application- Hit Quicksilver key-combo, type the first few letters of the application name, and hit Enter. Pretty darn simple if I do say so myself- yet this tip dares to make the entire process even simpler!
  
  Instead of going to all the hard work of pressing Enter, simply hold down the key corresponding to the first letter of the application you want, and Quicksilver will open it. Unfortunately this tip only works if you have Quicksilver to display your desired application as the first result when searching with only the one letter.
  
  Now all I have to do is figure out how I'm going to exercise my pinky to make up for all the keystrokes this will save.
