As you might have noticed, serious changes are afoot here at Wired News. Last fall, we were reunited with the Magazine over at CondeNast after years apart, and we're making a pretty serious effort to remodel and revamp our look now.

And you can help us get there.

We need a new logo to match Wired's new banner style. This is your opportunity to be semi-immortalized in Cult of Mac history. Let me briefly outline our parameters for project:

    1. It needs to be 1000x100 pixels. See this example from Gadget Lab to see one solution that's been put in place already.

    2. We want a new text treatment for the name "Cult of Mac."

    3. Use the classic Cult of Mac image, as included in our current logo and the cover of the book if you can. Feel free to be as creative as you like.

I'm going to put a deadline on this thing for a week from Friday, Feb. 23. Shortly thereafter, I'll post the best five or so, recognizing their creators, and then I'll unveil the winner as determined by Leander and myself.

Flex your graphic design muscles, guys! I can't wait to see your best.

Macchallenge2 If you're a fairly long-time reader, you might remember the launch of a major charity drive here at  Chez Cult of Mac six months ago. The First Ever Claire Danes/Apple/Cult of Mac Back to School Computer Challenge! (or TFECD/A/CoMBtSCC! if you're into brevity) set out to raise $15,000 for a variety of unfunded school technology programs based around Apple products.

And we did it. AND THEN SOME.

I'm here to tell you that you guys did more than help fulfill this ambitious project -- you exceeded it by an unbelievable 10 percent. At this point, we've raised (with matching funds from Claire Danes) more than $16,500 for eight incredible projects. You guys are the best readers in the world -- I really can't say it too often.

And there's more to come, if you're still in need of a challenge. One project from the challenge, "An Apple Today Will Keep My Students Reading All the Way!", is currently $860 short. So if you didn't get the chance to contribute earlier, or if you are looking to contribute again, this is your opportunity.

Thanks again, guys. I'll post up thank you notes from the teachers who created the projects as they come in. I'm seriously in awe here.

Well, it's Valentine's Day in the Cult of Mac-iverse, and that means it's time to celebrate the loves in our various lives. My girlfriend Kimra of BuzzSugar fame and I are profiled over at GeekSugar as part of their Geeks We Love series. Thrill as you learn the details of the names of my Powerbook and iPod Shuffle! Chill as you learn of our shared iPhone yearning!

Check it out, noting how much more geeky I come off despite being the one in the relationship who's not making a full-time living as a blogger. Who's in your lives? What are your geeky Valentine's plans?

Love 2.0: Pete Mortensen and Kimra McPherson [GeekSugar]

    Thanks, Angelica!
