- Blue Mango delivers rapidfire documentation for iPad apps
Filed under: iPad
We admit it, we have a soft spot for ScreenSteps. Ever since we first met the Blue Mango team three Macworld Expos ago (at the urging of TUAW veteran Laurie Duncan), we've been big fans of their intuitive, cross-platform, and dependable little documentation system. It's not so little anymore, either; the most recent updates have added direct support for blogging platforms like WordPress, Movable Type, and Squarespace, and publishing options for Confluence and Google Sites.
Now the DeVore brothers have taken the power of ScreenSteps and applied it to a current documentation challenge: creating accessible, comprehensible guides for iPad applications. Their new site, ipad.screensteps.com, is a repository for step-by-step task guides for several of Apple's apps; they plan to add more guides in short order. The idea is to give users a handy resource, while demonstrating for iPad developers that there's an easy way to create and host this type of how-to material.
It's a small collection now, but as it grows, perhaps you'll find something to supplement Apple's PDF and iPad-format documentation, and the help files of third-party developers.

Unofficial Apple Weblog - Apple - IPad - MovableType - Google SitesПереслать - Photogene for iPad: More features, more coolness
Filed under: iPad
Who said you can't do content creation on the iPad? Every day, I am seeing more and more apps that allow you to create, modify, or extend content in ways that are approaching, but not yet quite equal to, what you can do on a desktop or full featured laptop.
A case in point is Photogene, a U.S. $3.99 app that has been upgraded from the iPhone version that we've positively reviewed in the past. The app has doubled in price, but comes with some significant updates like the ability to modify curves.
Photogene lets you crop and straighten photos, sharpen them, adjust levels and curves, apply filters, and create frames and selective blurs. No, it's not Photoshop, but you can really improve your photos and then export them by mail, Facebook, Twitter, or iPhoto. You can also just save them to your iPad photo gallery.
Having a much bigger screen to work on makes all the difference between this version and the iPhone incarnation. You probably can't make a bad photo good, but there are a myriad of enhancement tools that can make a good photo more interesting. Like all such apps, moderation is the key. Click here to see a video of the app in action.
I'm pretty surprised at the speed that apps are coming to the iPad. It seems that every time I visit the app store, there are updates to my older iPhone apps collection.
I think we'll see video editing, more sophisticated drawing tools, and audio editing apps that will go a long way to making the iPad a solid content creation tool.
Apple needs to respond to these initiatives by making it easy to get content on and off of the iPad. Options to do that now are limited and non-intuitive. It's a big issue for many potential buyers, and Apple would have to be deaf and blind to ignore the pressure. Maybe the necessary changes will be made, but how quickly is anyone's guess. Perhaps we'll hear something positive when version 4.0 of the software is previewed tomorrow.
Meanwhile, enjoy well thought-out apps like Photogene, and keep your fingers crossed.
Here's some shots of Photogene at work on one of my photos from Lake Powell:

The USPTO published a whole slew of new patent applications from Apple today, covering everything from iChat to some CoverFlow animation. Patently Apple has the whole writeup as usual. Probably the most interesting thing among them is a "virtual keyboard for media players" that uses a modified QWERTY keyboard, with more than one letter on each key. That doesn't seem like an idea that Apple will ever use, but maybe that was one of the prototypes that was originally being worked on for the iPhone.
There are also some more technical patents for iChat video encoding and error adjustments on touchscreens, as well as overall patents for the MacBook Air SuperDrive and iDVD. It seems like the USPTO is just cleaning out Apple's old patents -- most of these were filed back in 2007. Now, maybe they can set the legal patent team up on newer accomplishments.TUAWSixteen new Apple patents, from CoverFlow to iDVD originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Thu, 08 Apr 2010 07:00:00 EST. iPhone - Apple - Unofficial Apple Weblog - Patently Apple - Patent applicationПереслать - Five apps I love on my iPad, and three that need more work
Filed under: iPad
We've had the iPad available for the better part of a week now; here are a few apps that have risen to the top, along with a few more that have sunk to the bottom.1. GoodReader. Despite Air Sharing going iPad (I had the iPhone version) and MobileStudio providing a nifty universal binary (so the app upscales nicely), I decided to give GoodReader a try. It now sits in my dock.
MobileStudio requires FTP, and I wasn't in the mood to drop more cash on AirSharing Pro as I've already spent way too much on apps. I also tried MyPDFs and iPDF but felt they were too limited and rushed to be useful to me. GoodReader, however, hits the spot as a wonderful and capable PDF reader. Plus, it'll read text, image, audio and video files and anything that can be opened by Safari. I'm using GoodReader to manage some big PDF files, upwards of 200MB each, and it handles everything brilliantly. It also plays .mov files.
Granted, this performance is thanks in part to the powerful processor in the iPad, but the speed boost in working with PDFs is a welcome change to my now-cramped iPhone readers. There are a few UI tweaks that could be made when managing files, it's true. Still, adding folders, moving things around, and so on, are all there like a little mini-Finder. Piling a bunch of data into your iPad is easy and will look good.

Want to know how many iPads have really been bought? It may not be the ideal methodology, but at least ad network Chitika can explain where its numbers are coming from: the company is watching for ad loads from unique instances of Mobile Safari (each one representing a newly unpacked iPad browsing the net), then factoring in the percentage of the Internet that is visible to Chitika's sensors.
The result, as of tonight, is about 565,000 iPads in the wild -- which means that sales are moving along nicely, even after the steep peak of the first day has passed.

As the clock ticks down on World Health Day, there's an app that we should tell you about: the free iTriage 2.0 for iPhone (now also available for Android, and with a version coming soon for iPad). It's a provider locator, a symptom and disease database, and more.
The iTriage story is intriguing enough; the app was created by Dr. Peter Hudson and Dr. Wayne Guerra, practicing emergency physicians who realized that patients and healthcare consumers were facing information deficits at the moments when they most needed clear and accurate guidance around symptoms, conditions and available care facilities. Patients might have to make several calls to different providers -- a PCP, a specialist, and an ER or urgent care location -- to identify the best pathway of care.
Hudson & Guerra's approach to reducing this inefficiency was to break down the complexity of more traditional health resource tools and give users several pathways into the massive taxonomy of medical information. With iTriage, the app starts from the most urgent possibilities (the "Call 911" button). It then works its way down through finding immediate care (ER, specialists, etc.), locating a physician, looking up symptoms and conditions, and an exhaustive library of procedure information (including medical web searches, images & video, and eventually average cost details).
Beyond the informational bounty of the app, there's a separate layer that combines location awareness and a connection to the hospital systems for certain areas (mostly HCA hospitals in Colorado and Florida for now, but Hudson says the coverage areas are expanding). Hospitals that partner with iTriage's parent company can choose to list additional information, like ER waiting times or areas of excellence, within the app.TUAWiTriage provides mobile health advice with style originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Thu, 08 Apr 2010 01:30:00 EST. IPad - Health care - Apple - Medicine - Unofficial Apple WeblogПереслать - How to make $150 million in a day
Filed under: iPad
Seth Godin has a great post up that serves as a good capper on what may have been Apple's best product launch ever. He puts the money made by Apple last Saturday morning at around $150 million, and even if that's not exactly right, I have to say that having been through a few Apple launches now, I think the iPad's launch was the smoothest and easiest opening I've seen -- for all of the complaints and problems people who haven't bought an iPad seem to have, those who did buy one on Saturday seemed happy to me. So how did Apple pull it all off?
As Godin says, they started years ago. Apple is one of the only companies in the world with not only the power to set up limits on access on a device this big, but also keep a rabid fanbase hyped and waiting. Apple has created an image designed exactly for releasing products like this, with the secrecy and speculation and announcement events, and so on. And the company has backed up that image with pristine engineering and design -- as Godin says, rather than be everything to everyone, it promised a few things to a certain group of people (the iPad can't do Flash or multitask or take pictures), and then delivered (but it can do the things it does really, really well).
And perhaps most importantly, when launch time came around, Apple's management didn't focus on "launching," they focused on simply getting the product into customers' hands. The iPhone had all kinds of issues with setup and purchasing and activating and so on, but Apple went out of its way during the iPad launch to make sure customers had the iPad when they were supposed to --waived shipping fees, plenty of inventory in stores, and a push for delivery at exactly the right time. That's how you make $150 million in a day: Promise what you'll deliver, and deliver what you'll promise.TUAWHow to make $150 million in a day originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 23:00:00 EST. Unofficial Apple Weblog - Apple - IPhone - IPad - CompanyПереслать - Apple rejects iPad app for pinch-to-expand
Filed under: iPad
We've heard all kinds of reasons for rejected apps on the App Store, but this one seems new to us. An iPad app called Web Albums HD has reportedly been rejected from the App Store for including a pinch-to-expand feature in its Picasa albums viewing functionality, as reported on Apple Insider. The developers allegedly hand-coded a pinch-to-expand feature for their galleries to match Apple's official photo app, but were told by App Store editors that the feature was "associated solely with Apple applications." Interesting. Not actually true, as "pinch-to-expand" is really a feature that's common to many touchscreen interfaces, even if this photo gallery-browsing instance is unique. But apparently Apple feels it has laid claim, and so no other apps on the store get to use it.
The folks behind Web Albums HD promptly removed the feature, and their app was subsequently approved on the store (which is why it's there now), but before you go spend the $2.99, know that even the devs think that they've "ended up having an inferior product" out there. Of course Apple has definitely limited the functionality of apps in the past by disallowing certain APIs, but now it seems replicated functionality of something they deem Apple's domain can also fall under their banhammer.TUAWApple rejects iPad app for pinch-to-expand originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 21:30:00 EST. Filed under: iPhone
Following yesterday's "Concert" iPhone ad, Apple has released another ad called "Shopper." In "Concert," the ad featured a girl who was something of an impulse-buyer. The man in "Shopper" still likes to buy, but he's just got a little more self-control.
The ad begins with a man using Safari to search ProductWiki for an espresso maker as a gift for his wife. After doing "a little research," the man sends a text message to his wife's sister asking which color espresso maker his wife would like. After a terse Steve Jobs-esque answer of "Red," the man uses RedLaser ($1.99 in the App Store) to check to see if the espresso machine is cheaper anywhere else. The ad ends with the man exclaiming he's "a much smarter and faster shopper with his iPhone."

iPhone - Apple - Unofficial Apple Weblog - Steve Jobs - Scott ForstallПереслать - iPad Wi-Fi issues continue to irritate
Filed under: iPad
This morning, we spotted this write-up on Apple 2.0 about dealing with iPad Wi-Fi issues. Since this is the iPad's number one usability issue -- poor Wi-Fi throughput and lost connections -- users are on the prowl for solutions, even ones that may sound a little offbeat. In this case, one correspondent who was experiencing the specific issue of "no connection when waking from sleep" found that his woes became bygones with a quick tweak: he turned his display brightness back up, after having lowered it earlier. It sounds a bit like Cargo Cult troubleshooting, but with a new device and a new set of quirks and workarounds to experiment with, some strange remedies might just turn out to be valid. (For years, I used the freezer and firm thwack hard drive recovery methods to great effect, regardless of the strange stares and annoyed memos from the kitchen staff.)
Apple has posted a number of Wi-Fi support links over at its discussion board. According to the company, reconnection issues may occur when working with dual-band routers that use similar network names and different security settings for each network band. Low and intermittent signals may be due to distance from a Wi-Fi hotspot or multiple WEP keys, and the standing recommendation is to try repositioning the router, the iPad or both.
If you've tried these fixes, or other Wi-Fi workarounds, let us know below.TUAWiPad Wi-Fi issues continue to irritate originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 19:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Unofficial Apple Weblog - IPad - Apple - IPhone - UstreamПереслать - iPad: Stand by me
Filed under: iPad
TUAW readers have been writing in to tell us about the stands they have been purchasing to use with their iPads. Personally, I'm using a $6.99 Staples "Study Stand" (SKU 120147). Made of chrome with rubber tips, I have found the stand really sturdy and easy to use. I particularly like that I can attach the charging cable and still use the iPad in portrait orientation. I wrote about this stand in more detail on a couple of blog posts here on TUAW.
Although my Staples seemed to have quite a few stands in-stock (they are located near the business card holders in my store), it hasn't been as easy for others to find. My friend Jeff Smykil over at Ars Technica tells me his Staples rep wasn't initially helpful. "They tried telling me that you got that stand at Office Depot--until I showed them the sticker with their logo on it," he wrote. He left, unfortunately, empty-handed. The SKU didn't show up online for me when I did a search on the Staples site, so it may be a discontinued item.
Fortunately, readers are locating some good alternatives. Bob Schoenburg found this $6 stand at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Made of clear acrylic and, more importantly, foldable, Bob's stand is meant to be used as a folding easel. Bob writes, "Don't forget to use a 20% off coupon!"
TUAW reader "gilmore783" tracked down a Fellowes study stand at Buy.com. Costing two dollars less than the Staples version, the Fellowes folding stand offers free shipping, for a total of just $4.99 shipped. The same stand (at least I think it is the same stand) sells for $7.99 plus shipping over at Amazon, where you can read thirty-odd reviews. According to write-ups, the Fellowes stand does fold completely flat unlike the Staples model, which does not.
So do you have a stand? Tell us about it in the comments -- and don't forget to add a link to your picture!
Update: Here's a video from TUAW reader "francisreal" showing how to make a credit-card/soapdish ipad stand:

Calling all TUAW readers! Tomorrow you're going to find out if Apple listened to the letters you wrote to them. Now in all fairness to Apple, your second letter dealt with the hardware. We don't expect Apple to preview the new iPhone hardware tomorrow, and even if they did, that hardware was probably set in stone eighteen months before release. So we'll have to wait for the 5G iPhone to see if they've heeded your wants there. Now as for the software...

For years I've dreamed of an Internet appliance for the kitchen -- one that would replace the clutter on the refrigerator, offer weather updates and calendar events, help with the cooking and serve as a central hub of family news and activities. Two years ago, I described that fictional appliance here at TUAW. Today I've realized that it finally exists, and it's called iPad.
My desire for such a thing was sparked with the 3Com Audrey. With its touchscreen, wireless keyboard and Internet access (Ethernet only), you could use it to check mail, view calendar events and do some light web surfing. It was discontinued after 7 months, and never developed into what it could have been.
In playing with one (I picked it up for US$10 on Ebay), I got a picture of what I wanted its successor to be, and I described it in that post from two years ago. Today I'm amazed how successfully the iPad meets those requirements. Read on to see what I mean.

Apple - Unofficial Apple Weblog - IPad - 3Com Audrey - MacintoshПереслать - iPad 101: The easy way to get high-def videos onto iPhone or iPad
Even though the iPad has that HD feel, there are plenty of HD files it can't stomach -- the maximum resolution for videos to sync via iTunes is 720p, and anything higher (1080i or 1080p) simply won't transfer. On the iPhone and iPod touch, the upper limit is even tighter; those devices can only handle 640x480 videos, meaning that a 720p file will stall out. Generally, movies or TV shows purchased from iTunes will arrive with versions tuned for both devices, but for anything you've created independently of the store, you may run into a spot of trouble.
There's an extensive walkthrough over at Gizmodo covering how to use Handbrake for downsampling your 1080i/p videos to a more manageable resolution, very helpful if you're in a DIY mood -- but there is an easier way. It takes advantage of a feature in an app you're already using: iTunes.
Just select your movie file(s) and check under the Advanced menu. See those two "Create..." options? The iPod or iPhone version will deliver a resampled video at a resolution the smaller devices can manage; the iPad/Apple TV choice will spit out a 720p file. All you need to do is select your choice and wait for a while... depending on the length of your video and the speed of your Mac, it may take quite a long time, but be patient. You can try out the steps with an Apple-provided sample file, if you like.
Once the conversion is done, you'll see a second instance of the video in your media list -- then you can sync at will. Note that if the file you're choosing is already adequately low-res, you'll see the dialog box below.
Happy squeezing!

Dear Aunt TUAW,
I ordered a 32GB iPad WiFi+3G model back in March, shortly after they were announced. I ordered a few accessories too, each of which has shipped separately ahead of the iPad.
I received the first accessory today via FedEx--the iPad Dock. I've always been a fan of Apple's packaging and the dock is no exception. As so, I'm always especially carefully when opening Apple stuff as not to damage the packaging.
What I did find a little odd, though, is that they put one of those plastic tabs (as if it was hanging in a retail store) right over the only opening to the box. Despite my best efforts, I wasn't able to remove the plastic tab that was VERY well affixed to the box without damaging it and leaving glue-like residue behind.
I guess I won't be saving this well-designed box for the future -- unless you can help!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Love, your nephew,

Unofficial Apple Weblog - IPad - Apple - FedEx - Wi-FiПереслать - TSA: Keep your iPad in the bag, please
Filed under: iPad
The pleasure in visiting a US airport can be found in drinking pricey stale coffee and navigating the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) security checkpoint. Typically, electronics must be pulled from bags and placed on a conveyor belt for scanning. Fortunately, iPads are an exception. Usually.
The TSA ruled on Tuesday that iPads may remain in their bags for scanning. Since they're relatively small with no bulky AC unit (no word if this needs to be scanned separately), cables, external drives, etc., they're just as easy to examine while inside your bag.
You could be asked to remove it if the agents can't get a clear picture, so don't bury it under a heap of socks and underwear. Conversely, laptops must always be removed from their bags and scanned separately (at least that's the rule at BOS).
As for your shoes and belts, well...expect to drop them into the tray, too.

Unofficial Apple Weblog - IPhone - IPad - Apple - IpodTouchПереслать - iPhone OS 4 set to bring printing to iPad, iPhone?
Support notes for iPad's Pages, Keynote, and Numbers apps all suggest that printing functionality may be coming to the device. The notes state that "printing directly from iPad is not currently available." It's the use of the word "currently" that has got people buzzing. If these words do suggest that printing is coming to iPhone OS 4.0 (being previewed tomorrow), printing may well not be limited to only the iPad.
So how would your iPhone or iPad connect to a printer? The most likely ways would be via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (making an Airport Base Station or Time Capsule a nice add-on sale for anyone buying an iPhone or an iPad, or non-wireless printer owners), or perhaps Apple will even introduce an iPad/iPhone-to-printer connection kit. We'll find out tomorrow!

iPhone - IPad - Apple - Unofficial Apple Weblog - Wi-FiПереслать - First look: Camera for iPad
Filed under: iPad
No, it's not a hardware device, but Camera for iPad (US$0.99) can help out those frantic iPad users who are wondering how the heck they're going to survive without a by-God camera built into their latest Apple toy.
The app is universal and runs on both iPad and iPhone. In fact, the camera in the iPhone is what ends up being the real "Camera for iPad." Installing the app on your iPhone and iPad allows the two devices to find each other via Bluetooth. When they're linked, everything that the iPhone camera is seeing is transmitted to a window on the iPad. Press a button on the iPad, the iPhone snaps the photo, and then the photo is transferred -- slowly -- to the iPad.
The idea is pretty cool, and it does provide a way to get photos into your iPad until that Apple Camera Connection Kit actually hits the stores. The slowness I'm talking about in the previous paragraph is not a fault of the app, but the fact that Bluetooth is being used for the file transfers. It doesn't have anywhere near the speed of Wi-Fi, but you will be able to shoot and transfer photos anywhere; there's no need for the two devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Possible uses for this could include the ability to set up a local webcam, a clever way to catch an iPhone thief in the act, or it could be used just for fun; the kids would likely enjoy being sent out around the house to act as remote cameramen. When you see something you like, you take the photo. It's a lot of fun, and inexpensive as well (provided you've already spent the $1,000 or so dollars for your iPhone and iPad).TUAWFirst look: Camera for iPad originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 11:30:00 EST. iPhone - IPad - Apple - Unofficial Apple Weblog - AppStoreПереслать - Rumor: Apple's 'iAd' Mobile Advertising Platform to be introduced tomorrow
Filed under: Apple Corporate
It seems that a rumor we heard last month is about to be realized: reports indicate that Apple's new 'iAd' Mobile Advertising Platform is set to debut tomorrow.
According to All Things Digital, Apple will introduce iAds during tomorrow's iPhone OS 4 preview. Don't let the image above fool you; Google CEO Eric Schmidt is likely to be quite happy with this announcement. Why? Because he'll use it to demonstrate to the FTC that Google 1.) does have advertising competitors and 2.) should be allowed to spend US$750 million to purchase AdMob. That deal has been tenuous at best.
We can only guess about how iAds will work, if it's really called "iAds" and so on. But if All Things D is correct, we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Apple - Quattro Wireless - Google - Unofficial Apple Weblog - AdMobПереслать - TUAW Exclusive: Element Case launches the Joule, a luxury iPad stand
Filed under: iPad
We covered the iPhone cases from Element Case a couple of years ago, and I was impressed with their build quality and design. Now they've released a beautiful aluminum stand called the Joule for the iPad. As you can see from the gallery, the Joule is simplicity itself: a machined and polished cylinder of aluminum with a leg in the back for stabilization. There are three holes to customize the angle of tilt on the iPad and the device itself rests in a velvet-lined groove. We've got a review unit on the way and we'll be giving some away soon, so stay tuned for that. You can also have the Joule in polished aluminum (seen above) or anodized black, plus they'll zap your logo or almost whatever on the thing with a laser -- for a fee.
Meanwhile, you can buy a Joule here for $129. The first 100 TUAW readers to order with a promo code can purchase the Joule for $99. The promo code is: TUAWJ1
Check back for a full review and the giveaway early next week. Until then, enjoy the gallery.

Today, Griffin Technologies announced a family of new products that are sure to make iPad owners happy.
For those of you who don't want to purchase the Apple Keyboard Dock or the "regular dock," Griffin has developed the A-Frame Tabletop Stand (US$49.99, see photo above). This is a folding aluminum stand with a soft silicone cradle in the bottom. The iPad sits contentedly in the cradle in either portrait or landscape orientation, and Griffin says that the dock connector is accessible regardless of how the iPad is oriented. When you're done, the A-Frame Tabletop Stand folds flat for easy travel. It's also possible to use the stand in the folded position to help support the iPad when it's on a table or other flat surface.TUAWGriffin Technologies announces iPad power and desktop accessories originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. Apple - IPad - Unofficial Apple Weblog - Dock Connector - AluminiumПереслать - Apple releases new iPhone Ad: "Concert"
Following last week's "Commute" iPhone ad, Apple has released a new iPhone ad called "Concert." Sticking with the "everyday use" theme, the ad tells the story of a girl who hears a song on the radio. She uses Shazam [free] on her iPhone to identify the song as "In the Sun" by She & Him. At this point, the girl -- who, keep in mind, has only heard one song -- downloads the entire album, plays a single song, and decides to buy concert tickets when the Local Concerts app [free] pops up to tell her that the band is playing in her town. Talk about impulse buying! The commercial ends with her saying, "I still don't know how my iPhone does all that."
Lady, if you buy everything that impulsively, I still don't know how you have any money left in your bank account.TUAWApple releases new iPhone Ad: "Concert" originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Wed, 07 Apr 2010 09:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

iPhone - Unofficial Apple Weblog - Apple - AppStore - ShazamПереслать - It's World Health Day! Medsy free for 24 hours.
Today is the 60th annual World Health Day; it's a day of awareness and programs sponsored by the World Health Organization to promote better health across the globe. In honor of the day, and in order to raise awareness about the importance of taking medications on time, the people at Medsy are giving away their popular iPhone app [free] for twenty-four hours . People who fail to finish all of their meds, or don't take them as scheduled, not only threaten their own health, but help give rise to antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA.
Medsy hopes to help change all of that. The app allows you to input all your medications, vitamins, and supplements, and set reminders for you to take them. The app uses Push notifications, so even if your iPhone is locked or you are using another app, you'll still get your reminders. Medsy allows you to input the name of the medicine, its dosage, and the prescribed frequency of the dose. The app even lets you customize the icon for each medication by shape and color. For those worried about privacy concerns, Medsy stores all of your medical information locally on your iPhone and not on its reminder servers. If you delete Medsy from your iPhone, all of your medical information is deleted with it.
Medsy is only available on the iPhone as the iPod touch will not support Push notifications when not on a WiFi network. It regularly sells for $3.99, but it's available today as a free download.
