  • Tidy up your Mac desktop with DragThing 5.9.3

DragThing logo.jpgIf you’re experiencing desktop clutter on your Mac, like myself, you might want to check out Drag Thing. On June 4, 2008 they updated DragThing to 5.9.3. I really like this application since it helps me remove the clutter from my desktop. yes I admit it at times I can be a virtual packrat, and you’ll see all sorts of things cluttering my desktop.

    DragThing 5.9.3.jpg

I took this screenshot a few moments ago. As you can see I’m able to store all my text and image files in one place. That’s very convenient. I use the some of the same pictures throughout the week DragThing stores my clippings and let me paste them into other applications simply by clicking.

DragThing makes it so that all my documents, folders, applications, and urls are a single click away. Need more than one dock? No problem, DragThing has you covered. To add another dock click on Drag Thing, Dock options, in the lower right hand corner you have the option to create another dock. I also like the fact that I can customize my docks to meet my needs.

Hot keys are a great feature in this application DragThing allows you to define a large variety of them. You can use them in a variety of ways. I really like the fact that there are numerous ways that I can use them. I can use them to open items in my multiple docks I can also use them switch between other applications on my Mac and I can even control its visibility.

DragThing is a little over seven and a half megabytes and includes English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese language support as standard.

If you are already a DragThing user and are have updated or are getting ready to update your copy just know that the Desktop Trash will o longer appear in all spaces by default. In order to the application to appear in all of them you need to set it to appear in all Space. This can be done in the “Exposé & Spaces” section of System Preferences.

  • Zoho Redesigned for the iPhone

Zoho is an office productivity suite that is entirely online, just like Google Docs, only with more stuff you can create (invoices, CRM, Projects). Raju and company recently redesigned the interface to work better with an iPhone. Writer, Creator, Sheet, and Show are supported. It looks pretty good, and works fairly well. When I looked at simple docs on the mobile interface, everything worked just as it should, but my older (desktop-created) docs were not so lucky. Two of them were cut half off in portrait mode. When I tilted to landscape, I got the whole enchilada. I guess there are still some bugs. All the others opened fine, and those two had weird formatting to begin with.

I could be alone on this, but it is hard to write on the iPhone/iPod Touch (I have the latter, still waiting for Verizon to sign on with Apple). It takes so long to create something when compared with typing on a real keyboard. it is okay for short emails and notes, but I wrote a blog post once that took way too long. Although I do like the ability to be able to view my docs when I am not near a computer.

Zoho Show (PowerPoint) does look really good. They did a great job on that. The presentations look pretty slick and are easy to navigate.

If you want to test your document/spreadsheet/presentation creating skills on your iPhone, go to mobile.zoho.com and give it a whirl.

  • WWDC '08 Rumor Roundup

Since we all know that Steve Jobs is Mr. Secretive, everything that is “announced” before his keynote is pure speculation. Of course, it sure is fun to think about all of these.

I am sure there are more and will be more before the weekend is over. I think the 10.6 and Tablet rumors are most far-fetched. And if there isn’t a 3G iPhone expect Apple’s stock to drop and look for many, many upset people!

Feel free to add to the list in the comments, and tell me what you most want announced at Steve’s keynote on Monday.

  • WWDC: Apple distributes mysterious boxes; 3G iPhone?

As the WWDC gets closer they hype surrounding this event continues to build. Nearly everyone that has been following the news leading up to the WWDC expects Apple CEO Steve Jobs to announce the iPhone App Store and iPhone 2.0 software, not to mention the 3G iPhone. Rumors have been flying about the mysterious boxes that Apple is reportedly delivering to Apple partners and resellers worldwide.

In May hype surrounding the possibility of a 3G Phone went into overdrive. ImportGenius, an import tracking service, uncovered shipping records on Apple showing that Apple and its partners were secretly delivering shipments of an unknown device into ports on both coasts. Import Genius also discovered that shipments weighing between 3,700 and 6,500 kilograms finished at a Quanta distribution center in Fremont, California.

Fast forward to the present, right before the WWDC activity at Quanta computer has increased. Forbes reported that this Wednesday four truckloads of these mysterious packages left the center. The packages were brown, and unmarked, and the staff refused to discuss its contents.

Whatever is in those boxes it has the Quanta employees working overtime. Forbes went on to say that on the outside of the facility boxes were piled high, some of them were labeled iMac and “were stacked ten deep alongside 20 pallets of identical unmarked boxes roughly stacked ten deep and four abreast.”

Many believe if Apple is going to release the next generation iPhone next week than the packages most likely contain that device since Apple would have to ship them out in advance to its partners and resellers.

Of course, these boxes could contain a variety of Apple products such as; new notebook computers or a new product like the Mac tablet that I’ve been hoping for. However, I don’t think I’ll be getting that any time soon. This all might be a huge coincidence; however, similar news has broken in Australia. Apple has shipped boxes to resellers with stickers telling them not to open the box until June 10 or they’ll risk breaking the non-disclosure agreement. With a message l imagine some might be tempted to open the box.

Although I won’t be able to make the WWDC event I plan to tuning in via live streaming. The great news is we don’t have too much longer to wait before WWDC is in full swing, until then the hype and excitement surrounding the event will continue to soar only to be released once WWDC kicks off.
