- Garmin Releases Training Center for Mac

We previously mentioned that leading GPS-maker Garmin was planning to release their long delayed Training Center software for OS X. Garmin Training Center is designed to work with Garmin's line of wrist and bike GPS devices to allow you track a variety of workout data (routes, heartrate, etc.). People have been waiting for this for over a year since it was announced, so it's about time. Now if they'd only make their MapSource software Mac-compatible, we'd be talking.
Garmin Training Center is available now as a free download from Garmin.

Tiffany from LaCie was nice enough to show off a variety of LaCie's goods for us. LaCie, as we all know, makes hard drives but they also are now entering the accessories market. They have a cool new product called the LaCie FireWire Speakers, which are bus-powered speakers which also send the audio signal over FireWire. One cable is all you need.

These days, there is absolutely no shortage of apps that let you control iTunes in one way or another. You can use your PSP, tiny menubar controllers, countless iTunes widgets and now - CoverSutra. Featuring a stylish bezel with loads of control feedback and album art display, CoverSutra aims to give you complete control over iTunes without invading your space. It can even work with the Apple Remote, offering visual feedback without the need to enter something like Front Row.
A 10-day demo of CoverSutra is available, and it sells for just under $13 USD (€9.95). While CoverSutra is a brand new 1.0 app, the developer is promising "plenty of new things in [the works] for you," and upgrades are free until version 2.0. We're all excited about Leopard, Apple's next major release of OS X. Steve has shown us some of the features, but Apple is keeping a pretty tight lid on everything that will be included in 10.5.
One of the features that made Steve's WWDC keynote is Stationery Templates in Mail. Basically, this makes it very easy to create snazzy HTML emails right within Mail. You can live preview templates, and drag and drop images from iPhoto. Tim Gaden points out that Apple, at some point, put up a little gallery with a bunch of the templates that will soon be unleashed upon the world.
I don't know about you, but HTML email is the bane of my existence. The first thing I do when I am configuring any email client is figure out how to convert all incoming emails to plain text. I might be a little extreme in my dislike of HTML emails, but I seriously hope that when Leopard is released I don't start receiving a deluge of HTML emails.Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Norway's Ombudsman has never been a fan of Apple's DRM. We've covered this a few times here on TUAW, but it looks like things are coming to a head. It has been decided that the iTunes DRM is illegal according to Norwegian law, and now Apple has until March to change the terms until the first legal steps will be taken against Apple.
Will this signal a massive change in Apple's DRM? Or will it mean Apple leaving Norway? Only time will tell, but I can't imagine Apple will just give up on the entire European market.
Update: Norway, as it has been pointed out, is not now, nor has it ever been, a part of the EU. Finland, however, is and they have the same issues with Apple's DRM. My apologies to our Norwegian readers.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

I am just a simple blogger. I don't have a PhD in anything (other than Awesomeness, but I got that online for 5 bucks) nor do I spend my days locked in an Ivory Tower pondering the socioeconomic implications of the Ruble. This is why when you went to get a broader prospective on what Apple's recent name change (from Apple Computer Inc. to Apple Inc.) means you turn to trained professionals.That's just what Knowledge@Wharton did for their piece examining what Apple's name change means for consumers, and to Apple as a company. Some think that it is a tacit declaration of surrender in the PC market ('We lost the PC war, so we might as well get rid of the computer from our name') while others think that the change was made to more accurately reflect Apple's diversifying interests.
If you ask me, which you didn't, Apple is clearly devoted to computers in whatever form they may take. When you get right down to it the iPhone and the Apple TV are both just highly specialized Macs running variants of OS X. Are they computers? Are they consumer electronics? They're both, and that convergence is the market that Apple is trying to corner.
