- Wii Transfer 2.0
It seems like only yesterday when I first wrote about Wii Transfer, and now it is a 2.0 app. My how times are changing. Wii Transfer 2.0 adds some very cool features to its ability to encode videos from your Mac for playing on the Wii. 2.0 offers:
- The ability to stream your music from your Mac to your Wii
- Share your photos from your Mac to your Wii
- Lots of bug fixes, and a new UI

Some people have all the luck. The folks over at Evil Mad Scientist Labs got their hands on an iPhone. They didn't keep the goodness all to themselves though, they reviewed it so that the masses could have a little of the enjoyment. They like the screen, but are a little disappointed in the color saturation. iCal works like a charm, but writing in cursive with your finger tip is deceptively difficult.
Finally, the iPhone seemingly sports Apple's old logo, which adds a little retro-chic to the device.
Thanks, Windell.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Cool tools, Hacks, Security
It was a busy weekend for Landon Fuller and his crew of white-hat hackers working to plug the holes in Mac OS X and associated applications revealed by Month of Apple Bugs. His most recent two posts detail patches for Transmit and iChat, a mount warning for disk image downloads in Safari, and a patch for a zero-day vulnerability that's not even on the MOAB hit list: a heap overflow in the Java GIF image handling code, which has been fixed in Sun's releases of the Java virtual machine but not yet in Apple's release.
Landon also points to the BOM Shelter python script, written by his buddy William Carrel; the script modifies permissions on several items to avoid the vulnerabilities of MOABs 5, 8 and 15.
The thanks and appreciation of the entire Mac-using community are due to these guys, who are volunteering their time and considerable expertise to keep us all a little bit safer.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Multimedia, Software, Odds and ends, Freeware
This YouTube video is just an example of what you can do with MorphX from Martin Wennerberg. This relatively simple program will let you render out short videos that "morph" or transform from one image to another. It allows you to control the calculations by defining control lines on each of the pictures which you want to match between the initial and the final images. Definitely worth a few minutes of amusement as you morph your relatives into each other.
MorphX is Universal and is a free download from Norkross Software.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: iLife, Software, Odds and ends, Universal Binary
One of Apple's big selling points in talking about the iLife suite of programs is their integration with each other, via the built-in media browser. For instance in iWeb or GarageBand, it's very easy to grab pictures from your iPhoto library or music from your iTunes library. Now Kudlian is offering similar functionality for Mac software that does not contain a built-in Media browser.
So if you're using a web design or page design program without a built-in media browser, you can easily drag a picture out of the Kudlian Media Browser and drop wherever you like. It includes a live search box that lets you narrow down your iTunes library just that exact song you're looking for or your iPhoto library to that perfect picture. I could imagine this could be a real time-saver for some folks.
Kudlian Media Browser is $9.95 but a five-day trial is available.

Filed under: Software, Productivity, Odds and ends
It seems like I am always looking for an alternative to Stickies. Although I like how simple they are, at the same time they just don't seem to fit that well into my workflow. Today I found a new candidate which looks rather promising: Edgies. Its main feature is, as you can see to the right, the ability stick its notes as little tabs on any edge of your screen. But in addition, if you hover over the tab name the note content will pop up, without a click. As well as text, you can drop pictures or even aliases in notes to make an impromptu launcher. New notes can be created by hovering the cursor at the screen edge, via Applescript, or (my favorite) via OS X Service (e.g. with Quicksilver).
Edgies is $9.99 shareware and a demo is available.
