- Apple confirms Oct 26 release for Leopard
Well, it's official. After going down this morning Apple Store is back up and sporting the banner you see above. Leopard will be released on October 26th, with pre-orders already being taken. The price is in line with the last few OS X releases: $129 for single user, $199 for the five-user family pack.
It's going to be a long 10 days!Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

It looks like Apple is busily updating the Apple Online Store. Could this be Leopard related, or is it just routine maintenance? We'll soon know!
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/16/apple-store-down/#comments - Thinksecret throws their guess in the Leopard hat: October 26th
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Rumors, Software, Apple, Leopard
If you listened live to our TUAW talkcast last night (and you should have, because we were on fire, if I may say so myself), you heard us doing the same thing all Apple fans are doing this week: speculating on the (hopefully impending) release date of Leopard. Most of us still hold out hope for October (and we did realize that coming out around Halloween would make for some excellent Apple-related Halloween costumes), but personally, I'm still betting on October 26th. As we said last night, not only would that make for a weekend full of Leopard-y goodness, but the full moon is on the 25th, so the stars will be aligned just right for Time Machine.
And Thinksecret agrees with me (that's awfully nice of them). Their sources (although I can tell you that I wasn't asked) say that Leopard is still on track for an October 26th release. I said last night that I expected Apple to actually announce a release date this coming week, but apparently it's still too early for that-- a new (and final) Leopard build is expected this week, and once that gets final approval, Thinksecret says October 26th is the day.
However, time is definitely running out. Let's not forget that Apple announced Tiger a full 17 days before release, and that deadline passed last week. If they're not done debugging Leopard, there's a good chance we won't see it in October at all anyway. Not even the witches and goblins of Halloween will make Jobs do something he doesn't want to do.
Thanks, Dewey K!Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Microsoft has been ramping up the hype machine for the coming release of Office for the Mac 2008. They've set up a special website, been talking to bloggers, and posting lots of information about the coming changes. One glaring omission from information bombardment was Entourage 2008. It was a little suspicion, but it looks like the Mac BU is finally ready to talk about Entourage.
The latest post on Mac Mojo is all about calendaring in Entourage, and I must say Entourage 2008 looks like a huge improvement over Entourage 2004. The UI looks much better, and best of all the features seem to be on par with Outlook.
Head on over to read the details about managing meeting requests, making sure you don't lose track of invites, and more.

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/15/mac-bu-posts-entourage-2008-details-finally/#comments - Apple limits iPhone service to AT&T account holders
Filed under: Apple Corporate, Bad Apple, iPhone
If you buy an iPhone and don't have AT&T service, it looks like Apple will be treating your iPhone as an iPod--with no 2 year service guarantee or even, for that matter, a 90-day service plan. Jake Dugard cancelled his iPhone account receiving poor AT&T reception. When his phone stopped working properly shortly after, he was told that Apple would not service his phone. Repairs depend on an active agreement.
It makes sense to me that Apple offers a much longer service time for under-contract iPhones than it does for iPods, but it doesn't make any sense that a no-contract iPhone isn't covered at least under the iPod's one complimentary support incident within the first 90 days of product ownership.
Dugard and/or his friends apparently recorded his service calls but, as an update, has now removed them for the time being from public view. If you followed the earlier link and cannot find them, that is why.
Thanks to iPhoned Home
Update: Quoting the relevant text: "iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair service coverage and up to two years of technical support during the time your wireless agreement remains active with AT&T."
Update 2: Apple 1 Year Limited AT&T warranty here. Have at it. (Thanks to Kai Cherry)

Filed under: Apple Corporate, Apple, iPhone
Is Apple hitting back at businessmen who buy, unlock and resell iPhones? Apple customers whose accounts show large, repeated iPhone orders are reportedly receiving emails canceling their orders and inviting them to enter the Apple reseller program, presumably with unlocking limitations.TUAW reader Silvio Duque sent in a copy of a recent email to an Apple customer: It thanked the customer for his interest in Apple products. "While Apple appreciates your company's support of Apple's technology and products, the Apple Store you placed this order with sells products to end-user customers only, and the order has therefore been cancelled. You may wish to review the Sales and Refunds Policy."
TUAW has not confirmed this policy and we'd like to hear from any other readers whose orders got cancelled.

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Humor, Found Footage, iPhone
Because an Apple commercial isn't accepted by the Apple community until it's parodied, here you go. NeoBen on YouTube has made a short parody of the new iPhone ads-- but they're about how his iPhone got bricked with the 1.1.1 update. And how you shouldn't worry if yours got bricked, too, because there's still a lot of different things you can use it for.
(I'm told that on these video posts, I sometimes drop spoilers in the second paragraph, so watch the video before you read on.) I just want to say that while I'm impressed that he really did wedge the iPhone in the door, I'm a little less impressed by the iPhone dropping out of frame in the hockey shot. I know your secret, Ben! That iPhone's not really bricked! But the video is still funny.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:

Infinite Loop is reporting that Apple will be altering the iTunes Plus program in iTunes this week. iTunes Plus, as you might recall, is what Apple calls the DRM free higher quality tracks that are currently available on iTunes for a premium ($1.29 vs. $.99 for DRMed tracks). It would seem that Apple, possibly responding to Amazon MP3, plans on lowering the price of iTunes Plus tracks to $.99 and will expand it to include some indie labels.
Here's hoping that DRM free digital downloads reign supreme.Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsКомментарии к сообщению:
