- MyTown 4.0 adds item creation, location tips
Filed under: iPhone, App Store
Booyah has released MyTown 4.0 for the iPhone, the latest update to their extremely popular check-in game, and it adds a whole new round of social functions to the system. Properties that you own (which you get by checking-in at real-life properties) can now create items of their own, and different categories, like shopping or dining, will create different types of items. Additionally, items can now be traded with friends in the game, and all of this adds a new level to the gameplay -- not only are you earning points for checking-in, but you're collecting items, and those items can give you extra boosts or otherwise mix up the game.
Plus, actual virtual items helps out Booyah's in-app sales, and I'm sure they will eventually put some of their branding agreements to work by making some of those created items brand-name products. Version 4.0 also adds "location tips," which allow users to leave comments at certain locations (to enable Yelp-style discussions), and check-ins now recharge over time, while max level players can check-in as much as they want.
MyTown's growth has been phenomenal, and with the amount of work going into the app, that growth likely won't slow down any time soon. The app is free and on the App Store right now.TUAWMyTown 4.0 adds item creation, location tips originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sat, 05 Jun 2010 18:00:00 EST. AppStore - iPhone - Booyah - MyTown - Unofficial Apple WeblogПереслать - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for iPhone: Fun, but faulty
Filed under: iPhone, App Review
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a franchise in possession of a large fanbase must be in want of a video game adaptation. However hasty or flawed the execution of said game may be, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of media conglomerates that a video game is considered the rightful final step in a multimedia enterprise.
"My dear gamers," said Freeverse to us one day, "have you heard that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is available for the iPhone at last?" We replied that we had not heard so, but, being great admirers of the zombie-slaying genre in general and Seth Grahame-Smith's ingenious adaptation of the Jane Austen classic in particular, we resolved to examine said game with alacrity.
With a heavy heart, dearest readers, I must tell you that although the wry concept of the game is beyond reproach, its execution is wanting in many respects. Most grievous of all, I have been unable to carry the game to its proper conclusion; not because I did not wish to do so, for the game is in most regards diverting and congenial, but rather owing to a game-halting fault for which I was unable to find resolution.
Read on to discover not only the merits of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for the iPhone (US$2.99), but also the inauspicious traits it possesses which, to my sorrow, render it unworthy of either praise or recommendation unless resolved with haste.TUAWPride and Prejudice and Zombies for iPhone: Fun, but faulty originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sat, 05 Jun 2010 17:00:00 EST. iPhone - Freeverse - Jane Austen - Unofficial Apple Weblog - Seth Grahame-SmithПереслать - Found footage: Fly an RC plane? There's an iPhone app for that
Filed under: Peripherals
We're supposed to hear more about the AR.Drone at E3 in a few weeks, but you may not have to wait that long -- Flypad is an app coming soon to the App Store that purports to let you fly any RC-controlled plane with an iPhone, just by connecting the iPhone's audio out signal up to an adapter. The iPhone can even be connected directly to a PC with the use of special RC simulation software, and from there you can use the dual-joystick setup to control any other games or software.
It's not an all-in-one solution like the AR.Drone (and the controller is just that, no video or special AR included). But if you already have a plane and a transmitter that's compatible with this setup, the app could be a cheaper way to use your iPhone as a controller. No price yet, but the app is under Apple's review right now.TUAWFound footage: Fly an RC plane? Filed under: Rumors
According to French Apple news site Macgeneration, Safari 5.0 will be released at WWDC. We usually don't post non-verified information, but I think that this might be true since we were sent specific release notes. With the understanding that this is a rumor, albeit a very good one, here's what Safari 5.0 purportedly contains:TUAWSafari 5.0 and Mac OS 10.6.4 to be announced/released at WWDC? originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sat, 05 Jun 2010 15:00:00 EST. Apple - Mac OS - Safari - Apple Worldwide Developers Conference - Unofficial Apple WeblogПереслать - TUAW Review: Carcassonne finally, gloriously comes to the iPhone
Filed under: iPhone, App Review
After Small World, Carcassonne is one of the most anticipated designer board game apps to hit the App Store. It took a little longer than expected, but everything from the basic Carcassonne game is here. Nothing more, nothing less. There are no river tiles, no traders, no princess or dragon. It's completely easy to play, and the plethora of options - local or online human opponents, very well-created AI players and a new solitaire version - mean this is the game to get if you know what a meeple is and enjoy sending them off to do your bidding.
Sure, we've had the clone (or not, depending on who you ask) app called Might And Card: Golden Edition, but now we finally and awesomely have an official Carcassonne app for the iPhone / iPod touch [$4.99] and it was well worth the wait. Read on to see why board gaming on the iThings is only getting better and better.
