If you're a loser and you're happy, it probably means that you are a successful dieter.
Being a middle-aged computer geek means that I have been gaining weight (no, I'm not as "hefty" as Steve Wozniak). I am a member of the WeightWatchers Online program, but it's frustrating that I haven't been able to track my Points(R) with my iPhone. Well, the brilliant minds at Random Ideas, LLC have just released Edibles (link opens iTunes), which works with just about any diet program to help you watch what's going into your mouth.
As a food journal, Edibles allows you to track whatever value your diet uses. For the Atkins diet, you'll be tracking carbs. On WeightWatchers, you have a certain number of Points(R) that you can ingest on a daily basis. If you exercise, Edibles deducts carbs, calories, or points so you can see the benefit of your workout.
Edibles tracks on a daily and weekly basis, just as most of the major diet plans do. Project managers know two things; first, that they need to keep a close eye on project scheduling and costs, and second, that the PM world revolves around Microsoft Project. Unfortunately for Mac users, Microsoft Project is a Windows-only application, so you either have to run Project in a Windows virtual machine or settle for a less powerful or compatible Mac application.
Techno-Grafik and Zisser Software have taken a step towards making life a little easier for Mac users with iTaskX 2.5. It's an update to their €80 (US$106.25) Mac OS X project management tool. Their press release notes that the big change to the new release is better support of Microsoft Project files. Users can now open native MS Project files or exchange data using the XML and MPX support of Project.
iTaskX 2.5 is now a Universal Binary app, and schedule information can be exported to iCal. Registered users of iTaskX can download the update for free. Do you spend more time in your car than you spend at home? If so, you're probably a road warrior driving around for your business. If that's the case, a good mileage log is exactly what you need. With gas prices still in the $4/gallon range, making sure you track your work or charitable miles accurately is very important.
Trip Cubby (App Store link) is a mileage log on steroids. It has a well thought out interface giving you the flexibility to put in as much detail as you need about trips. When you launch the $9.99 app, you're greeted with a simple list of trips and the option to add a new trip. It's then that the power of this app shows up, since the amount of information you can capture about a trip is very complete and customizable.
If you need to supply a trip log to your accountant, Trip Cubby not only creates a comma-delimited (CSV) file, but opens an email view so you can send it to someone. Developer David Barnard notes that they're working on an online backup system for Trip Cubby and other apps by App Cubby so your iTunes backup doesn't "lose" your info.
