- Steve Jobs is a recipient of the Jim Henson Celebration Honor Award
Filed under: Steve Jobs
Macworld is reporting that Steve Jobs is one of the recipients of the Jim Henson Celebration Honor - one of four Jim Henson Honors. Established in 2005, the awards program acknowledges organizations, individuals, or products that reflect the core values and philosophy of Jim Henson and the company he founded. Criteria used in the evaluation process include: a commitment to creativity, innovative applications of art and technology, and inspiration of others.
Four people are honored every year. In addition to Steve Jobs, this year's other honorees are:
- The Jim Henson Community Honor - 826 National, a tutoring, writing, and publishing organization
- The Jim Henson Creativity Honor - Neill Blomkamp, director of the movie "District 9"
- The Jim Henson Technology Honor - YouTube Symphony Orchestra, the world's first collaborative orchestra
CEO Lisa Henson went on to say, "Steve Jobs has continuously broken new ground with technologies that allow existing media in all forms to be easily enjoyed and also by providing fantastic tools for artists, photographers, musicians and filmmakers of all skill levels."
Jim Henson was one of the individuals featured in Apple's 1997 Think Different Campaign that many believe was central in rebuilding Apple's image in the minds of computer users.TUAWSteve Jobs is a recipient of the Jim Henson Celebration Honor Award originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sat, 20 Feb 2010 20:00:00 EST. Steve Jobs - Apple - iPhone - App Store - Jim HensonПереслать - Flickr Find: Fan-made imaginary covers for Steve Jobs' biography
Filed under: Flickr Find
Flickr member flypigs has made this series of six cover mock-ups for the rumored forthcoming Steve Jobs autobiography. They're all pretty cool, and if you look at the notes for each photo you'll see that flypigs has put a little research into it. For Steve Jobs: The Man Who Makes It A Different Place, flypigs stated: "After searching "Walter Isaacson" on Amazon.com, you will find almost all his books share the same layout of cover design -- a big title on the top, a highly visible "Walter Isaacson" on the bottom, and a huge famous face in the center."
Personally, my favorite is Connecting The Dots. It uses a photograph by Diana Walker called STEVE JOBS AT HOME IN 1982. Steve Jobs said of the photo: "This was a very typical time. I was single. All you needed was a cup of tea, a light, and your stereo, you know, and that's what I had." I love the layout of the title and the fact that flypigs took the title from Steve Jobs' 2005 Commencement address at Stanford University.
What's your favorite? Vote in the poll!

Steve Jobs - Apple - Walter Isaacson - Amazon.com - Stanford UniversityПереслать - Couple marries at 5th Avenue Apple Store on Valentine's Day
Filed under: Humor, Odds and ends, Steve Jobs, Holidays
We've seen robberies at Apple Stores before, we've seen kids rapping and we've even seen death threats, but I don't know that I've ever heard of a wedding in an Apple Store. That's what newlyweds Ya Ting Li and Joshua Li decided to do at midnight in the Fifth Avenue Apple Store on Valentine's Day -- right there among the iMacs and Macbooks, they got their wedding officiated by a turtlenecked Steve Jobs stand-in.
The rings came in on an original iPod, and the cards and decorations were Apple-themed as well (one says "I love you more than this" with a picture of an iPhone on it). Why did they choose to have their wedding in an Apple temple? The couple even met at an Apple Store. We don't know the details of that, but we'd like to think their eyes found each other over a 17" MacBook Pro.
Very cute. Congrats to the happy couple -- we would hope that they got AppleCare for the marriage, but we doubt they'd need it.TUAWCouple marries at 5th Avenue Apple Store on Valentine's Day originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sat, 20 Feb 2010 11:00:00 EST. Filed under: Retail, Cult of Mac, Odds and ends, Apple
Having withdrawal from all things Mac while on a sea voyage? Here's some future therapy. The Celebrity Cruise ship company has announced a new Internet Cafe on the new 2,850 passenger Celebrity Eclipse which sets sail in April. The iLounge, as Celebrity has named it, will include a mini Apple Store where passengers can buy MacBooks, iPods and other accessories.
Passengers will also be able to sign up for courses in iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb. Two other new ships are coming on line in 2011 and 2012, and both will have the iLounge aboard.
Celebrity operates ships that cruise to Alaska, The Caribbean, Europe, South America, Canada and New England.
This isn't the first time Macs have gone to sea. Back in 2008 we reported on Macs being installed on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for passenger use. Macs are also showing up in hotels and other places where tourists gather.
It sounds like a cool idea. Note to potential passengers: check out those internet costs when aboard. They are just a bit high.TUAWAhoy! Filed under: iTS, Software, iTunes, Developer, iPhone, App Store
Gameloft is one of the bigger iPhone-specific (or at least mobile-specific) game developers out there, and in fact they're so big, they tell Mobile Entertainment that they're not scared of their development partner Ubisoft and other big game developers headed to the iPhone. Ubisoft developed the most recent Assassin's Creed game for the iPhone, but Gameloft developed the first, and Gameloft's Gonzague de Vallois says that their game had better ratings and sales.
To a certain extent, yes, the App Store creates a level playing field for game developers, and allows companies even smaller than Gameloft to get their games out to a mass audience and gain a following based simply on gameplay, not necessarily marketing or other factors. But despite Gameloft's bragging, some of the most popular titles on the App Store, from Rock Band to Call of Duty: World at War Zombies, are able to tie a successful brand into an app that features solid gameplay. Yes, Gameloft has been able to shine on the App Store. But I wouldn't count big developers out yet -- they're still learning how to use the iPhone's marketplace, and I think we'll continue to see big successes from bigger developer in the future.

We're cleaning out the video files from the chaos of Macworld last week, and while we've already shared with you an interview that we did with Dan Connors of Telltale Games (who just recently announced that they're bringing their whole catalog over to the Mac), his co-founder Kevin Bruner also stopped by our booth live on the show floor to chat about gaming on the Mac and why Telltale has made the leap to our side.
You can watch the interview in two parts after the link below. In addition to telling us about his company and their big Mac Revolution, Bruner also shared with us his own passion for Apple's machines, including how he went into hock to buy a Newton on day one, and what he thinks of the iPad as a gaming device. Click on to see our chat, won't you?TUAWMacworld 2010: Telltale Games live in our booth originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Sat, 20 Feb 2010 01:00:00 EST.
