- New UK Get a Mac Ads
Filed under: Switchers, Cult of Mac, Apple
Back in January we mentioned Apple's UK Get a Mac campaign featuring local British comedy duo, David Mitchell (PC) and Robert Webb (Mac). Despite a report that the ads might actually be harming Apple's image in the UK, Apple is apparently pressing ahead with a few new ads including: Naughty Step, Court, and Magic. For my own part, I like the ads, probably even more their US counterparts. Besides, the word 'naughty' is funny all by itself! Check out the new ads at Apple UK.
Thanks, John!

Yes, we've seen this before, and Apple has issued a battery recall. We thought this was all taken care of. Maybe the guy who owns the crispy MacBook at right failed to replace his flagged battery?
Not so. The computer's owner, mattyb, states that his MacBook did not contain a recalled battery, and that it was sleeping on a shelf when he and his girlfriend were roused in the middle of night by the smell of smoke and burning. Sure enough, the MacBook and the magazine that had been sitting next to it were the culprits.
mattyb also says that the MacBook's battery had been exhibiting flaky behavior for some time before the incident (like rapid discharge, an "X" icon, etc.).
Oops. It's like Deja Vu all over again.

Tony Arnold, the developer of the free virtual desktop program VirtueDesktops, on Saturday announced that he is no longer going to develop the software. Citing Leopard's forthcoming Spaces and the time necessary to work on the project as reasons, he has decided to stop development at this time. He says he doesn't want to kill the project and so invites other developers to take it up. It's sad to see development end on a nice piece of software (though, personally I thought the commercial You Control: Desktops was considerably more stable), but as Tony says, the writing was on the wall pretty much as soon as Spaces was announced at WWDC last year.
