- Lion will introduce new sharing options in QuickTime X
When Apple came out with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, the company unveiled a whole new version of QuickTime Player (and also jumped a couple of version numbers in the process -- going from "7" to "X," or ten). The player component of QuickTime X was much sleeker than QuickTime Player 7, but lacked a lot of the added features that version 7 had (like Play Selection Only, Loop Back and Forth, etc). While it doesn't appear that Apple has added any of those features back into QuickTime X yet, the Lion Developer Preview 2 released today sports a new QuickTime X player (version 10.1) with additional sharing options.
In the QuickTime X player that shipped with Snow Leopard (version 10.0), Apple allowed you to share your videos right from QuickTime Player to iTunes, MobileMe, or YouTube. Now, with the forthcoming player that will ship with Lion, Apple is enabling additional sharing options, including sharing with Apple's Mail.app and the websites Vimeo, Facebook, and Flickr. It's nice to see Apple improving QuickTime X and hopefully they'll eventually get around to adding back all the features of QuickTime Player 7. Until then, there's always the QuickTime Player X plug-in, which adds some functionality back to the current version of QuickTime X. You can also keep a copy of the QuickTime 7 Player, which is an optional Snow Leopard install.

Переслать - Time Warner adds Fox and Discovery channels back to app
It's been a back and forth saga with the TWCable TV iPad app. A month ago Time Warner released the app, which let Time Warner cable subscribers view live TV on their iPads, as long as they were connected to their TWC/Road Runner-powered home networks.
Less than two days later, Time Warner had to cut the number a channels in half due to overwhelming demand on their authentication servers. Two weeks after that, Time Warner dropped more channels from the app due to pressure from the channels' programmers, in this case Discovery, Fox, and Viacom.
However, not being happy about having to drop the channels, Time Warner went to court and requested a declaratory judgment, asking the courts to rule on whether it could or couldn't show cable subscription channels on the iPad. Time Warner's stance was that the iPad was no different that just another TV screen in the house. (This parallels the experience of Cablevision's Optimum for iPad app, which has also faced challenges from Viacom's lawyers.)
So much trouble for one app, huh? Well, today Time Warner announced some good news: Fox and Discovery have agreed to allow Time Warner to show some of their channels in the iPad app. Those channels include Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet from Discovery and FX, Fox News, and National Geographic from Fox. As for the Viacom channels, for now it looks like their fate on the TWCable TV app remains in the hands of the court. Despite the hiccups, as MacRumors points out, Time Warner has slowly been adding more channels to the app; it now has more than 50 available, depending on your subscription package.

Переслать - Printopia updated with customised settings and security
I've been a big fan of Printopia since it first came out. It allows you to print from an iOS device to any printer on a wireless network or directly connected to a Mac.
After Apple's half-hearted AirPrint feature was launched, people were pretty upset to learn that it worked on only a handful of HP printers. Printopia fixed that with an app that sits in your system preference window, and gets you printing to just about any printer you have. The app requires a Wi-Fi network for connectivity.
The new version adds password security, unlimited virtual printers, and some new customization options giving users full access to printer settings, like page size, paper tray and color settings. It retains the print to Mac function which sends a JPEG or PDF to your Mac, and also allows you to send JPEG and PDFs to Dropbox or Evernote. I've used the original version since it came out and it has been flawless. Current owners can get the update for free by clicking on Printopia in System Preferences, new users will pay US$19.95 and anyone can try a 7 day free trial.

Переслать - Apple faces lawsuit over in-app purchases by children
Apple is facing a lawsuit over its newly revised in-app purchasing policy. The suit was filed by Garen Meguerian of Pennsylvania who accuses Apple of the unlawful exploitation of children with this iOS feature.
The crux of the suit hinges on Apple's policy that uses a single password to gain access to an Apple account and make an in-app purchase. Apple's in-app purchasing policy was recently updated to require users to enter their iTunes password a second time to make a purchase following reports of children racking up thousands of dollars in iTunes purchases.
Meguerian recognizes Apple's new policy, but asserts this change is not enough. Minors under 13 who have their parent's iTunes account can still make purchases without their parent's consent. According to the suit, Apple should require a secondary password, separate from the main iTunes password, for all in-app purchases.
Meguerian's suit stems from his own experience with his 9-year old daughter who racked up over $200 in charges while playing Zombie Cafe (shown above), Treasure Story and City Story. Meguerian was not aware of these charges until he received his monthly credit card bill. Though it may or may not have bearing on the case, receipts submitted as evidence show these purchases were made before Apple changed its in-app policy in February.

Переслать - iOS and Android gained video game market share in 2010
Flurry, a mobile analytics service, combined its mobile application data with published data from the NPD group and others, to show that Android and iOS captured a growing portion of the video game market share in 2010. According to the firm's analysis, iOS and Android game sales increased from 5% in 2009 to 8% in 2010 and revenue increased from US$500 million to $800 million in that same yearly period. Flurry claims that mobile game revenue in 2010 surpassed the estimated $700 million earned from PC game sales.
Looking closer at the figures, iOS and Android game sales took a chunk out of portable game sales. When compared to the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable, Android and iOS market share almost doubled from 19% in 2009 to 34% in 2010. At the same time, Nintendo DS market share fell a whopping 13 percentage points from 70% down to 57%.
Before you begin to declare the death of portable gaming, remember this is one metric and one company's analysis. We need to wait a bit longer to see how these figures fluctuate in the upcoming years before we shelves our Nintendo 3DS as a collector's item.

Переслать - Is Apple 'killing the World Wide Web'?
That's a really nice internet you have there. It'd be a shame if anything were to happen to it. That's the threat Apple's app-centric approach has leveled against the World Wide Web as we know it, according to Roger McNamee, co-founder of the private equity firm Elevation Partners.
"There's a titanic clash for control of the internet. Fundamentally, this is between the world-wide web on the one hand and Apple's app model on the other," McNamee told CNBC in an interview. "Right now Apple is just killing the World Wide Web. Apple will do almost 100 million [iPads and iPhones] this year -- the numbers are staggering."
McNamee contrasted Apple's "staggering" success with two of the biggest players in the internet space: Microsoft and Google. Apple's iPhone and iPad are eroding Microsoft's once formidable stranglehold of the web. For example, McNamee says the Redmond-based company's share of internet-connected devices will fall below 50% this year -- down from 97% a decade ago.
Similarly, McNamee thinks Google, who he characterizes as a good company and leader of the world-wide web group, is losing its influence. Google's primary search business is losing ground to specialized sites like Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, and Yelp. Much like Microsoft, Google has watched its 90% share of the search market shrink to less than half in the last few years.
The Elevation Partners co-founder said Google's core challenge is overcoming limitations in the underlying software for the web, HTML, which hasn't changed for a decade. But, he says, Android is "too wild west" to be successful. Google will need to address some significant security concerns and prove the platform can support a commercially-viable ecosystem for developers and hardware manufacturers before it can be considered a long-term challenger.Meanwhile, Apple's app model offers an innovative new approach to deploying engaging content and experiences to the web. As more customers buy iPhones and iPads, the Cupertino company will build momentum at the expense of its rivals. He sees the company entering a 10-year cycle of growth that will boost the technology sector as a whole.
Is Apple killing the web as we know it or simply making a killing with its popular mobile devices? Keep reading to state your case in the comments or watch the CNBC interview with McNamee.

Переслать - CBS forces developer to pull DiagnosticPADD app
CBS is using trademark and copyright violations to force the removal of a Star Trek-themed diagnostic application from the App Store. DiagnosticPADD uses an interface similar to the fictional computer operating system showcased in select Star Trek series to display details such as IP address, available storage, battery status and more.
CBS is exerting its ownership of the trademarked PADD name and the copyrighted LCARS computer interface used in the application. In the Star Trek: The Next Generation series, LCARS is a graphical user interface used on the instrument panels of the various ships and the portable PADD (personal access display device) device used by characters in the show. CBS claims the use of these elements in the DiagnosticPADD app confuse consumers and lead them to believe this app was officially sanctioned by CBS.
Unfortunately, Park Bench Software, the company behind the DiagnosticPADD app, is a small firm and lacks the resources to fight a media giant such as CBS. The small company confirms it will comply with CBS' request to pull the app from the App Store. As of the writing of this post, the 99-cent app was still available so grab it while you still can.CBS forces developer to pull DiagnosticPADD app originally appeared on TUAW on Fri, 15 Apr 2011 12:00:00 EST. Переслать - Facebook for iPhone can now change its news feed appearance instantly
The official Facebook client for the iPhone was updated recently and one salient change was an improved News feed. On the surface, the news feed changes appeared minimal, but behind the scenes Facebook re-worked the background mechanism that pulls in this status information.
According to Inside Facebook, the iPhone client reportedly now pulls its News Feed information from Facebook's mobile website, m.facebook.com. This server-side mechanism lets the social network make changes to the News Feed without modifying a single line of code on the device. All changes can be made to the backend server and reflected on the iPhone instantly. This system lets Facebook update their app without pushing a new version through the App Store for approval and lets it respond to feature requests and complaints at a faster rate. Pretty cool, eh?

Переслать - iPhone Geiger Counter would benefit Japan, needs Kickstarter love
The folks at RDTN have organized a Kickstarter project to fund the development and deployment of radiation detectors in Japan. The project uses an iPhone hacked to work with a variety of radiation detectors. The radiation units (shown here) will be sent into the field and used to collect data on radiation contamination in the Tsunami-ravaged country.
Since the detectors use an iPhone, they are easy for the average person with minimal technical knowledge to operate. Japanese residents who accept these counters are required to take readings eight to ten times a day and report their data back to RDTN's website. The readings are compiled by RDTN and made accessible to non-profit organizations, governments and scientists. The first sensor was deployed on April 14 and is already reporting back information to RDTN. You can view these readings and additional future readings on RDTN's twitter account (@RDTNprobes).
The group's Kickstarter project is seeking US$33,000 to initially deploy 100 devices in the field. The company's long-term goal is to equip over 600 people in Japan with devices and create a network of radiation monitors in the country.iPhone Geiger Counter would benefit Japan, needs Kickstarter love originally appeared on TUAW on Fri, 15 Apr 2011 09:00:00 EST. Переслать - TUAW's Daily App: You Don't Know Jack
Stop whatever you're doing right now and go download You Don't Know Jack for iPhone or iPad, or in the free lite version if you want. I don't know of any game that, throughout the years that it's been available on various platforms, is more consistently enjoyable by anyone, from the most hardcore of gamers to non-techie trivia buffs. You Don't Know Jack is one of the most solid gaming experiences around, and the brand new iOS version doesn't skimp at all. It's got hilarious iOS-specific audio (Host Cookie jokes early on that he's "glad to be hosting an app that's not a ripoff of Scrabble") and questions, all of the old mini-games (like Dis or Dat and the Jack Attack), and it even has the backstage talk and fake commercials that the main console versions have. Great game -- I can't recommend this one more.
OK, if I'm going to nitpick, I'll say that the graphics are just slightly pixelated on the SD version. And even the iPad version is one-player only -- the game recommends if you want to play with more people, you should buy one of the other versions. But there is Game Center integration, and with 20 full episodes available in the app (and even more promised to be coming soon), this is a terrific experience that won't disappoint anyone with a taste for trivia and/or a sense of humor. Great game, and well worth the US$2.99 on the iPhone or $4.99 on the iPad.

Переслать - Chimani National Park Guides free for iPhone until April 24
The Chimani Guides are really first rate apps at US$4.99 - $9.99, but in celebration of National Park Week, they are free from now until April 24. A good deal at the regular price, they are certainly worth a download for free.
There is one app for each of these parks: Acadia, Cape Cod National Seashore, Yosemite, Cuyahoga Valley and the Grand Canyon. The apps contain lots of photos, descriptions of hiking trails, restroom and parking guides, and details on lodging, camping and restaurants. There are detailed maps, and the apps use GPS to locate you. The apps also contain an audio driving tour and a look at scheduled events in the park you are visiting. For photographers, there are sunrise and sunset times and some optional push notifications alerting you to important park events.
Frankly, travel apps don't get much better than these, and I'm thrilled these apps are free for now. Some features require GPS and a 3G or Wi-Fi connection, and the downloads are sizable. The Grand Canyon app is 132 MB and Yosemite is 334 MB, so be sure you have room for them. I love finding great quality, free stuff for our readers, and this series of apps is a perfect example. If you're headed to any of these parks, grab one or more.

Переслать - Prompt from Panic does SSH on iPad and iPhone
Prompt from Panic is probably not an app you'll download just to muck around with and then forget. An SSH client is one of those things you either need and use a fair bit, or not at all.
Described by developer Panic as "a clean, crisp, and cheerful SSH client: it helps you when you need it, and stays out of your way when you don't," early reviewers seem to like it a lot.
Panic says the app is "for system administrators, web developers, movie-style hackers ('Let me just TCP/IP into the UNIX port!'), or any person who needs to connect remotely and type some magic."
It seems reasonably priced at US$4.99. Let us know if you've tried it.

Переслать - iOS Home Sharing bug found while using multiple Macs
iOS 4.3 brought us Home Sharing, which allows you to share iTunes libraries on up to five authorized computers on the same network and also have them show up on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. But if you have more than one Mac with a library to share, you may be in the same boat I found myself in.
I have three Macs, but Home Sharing would only bring up one library on both my iPhone and iPad. It wasn't always the same library; the one that appeared was totally random and often changed. I could never get more than one library to show up at once, so I called Apple. I was told that they would sort it out and get back to me.
After two weeks with no response, I called again and went up three levels of senior tech support. During the call, they were easily able to replicate the problem and told me this was the first time they had heard of it. They said it was a definite bug in the iOS software, thanked me for finding it and said they would contact me regarding when it would be corrected.

Переслать - Visual Thesaurus is a great tool for writers
After I wrote a post about the changes in Lion's Dictionary app and made suggestions about how Apple could still improve it, I got a nice email from a reader asking if I would write an article about some other writing tools I use. One of my favorites is Visual Thesaurus by Thinkmap.
Visual Thesaurus is an interactive -- almost organic -- dictionary and thesaurus for your Mac. Enter a word, and you'll be presented with branch nodes displaying synonyms or antonyms for that word. The lines between the words are color-coded to indicate parts of speech. Depending on how you are using the word, click on its proper definition and then delve down through the semantic relationship of the word by clicking on its node. The whole process is a really fun way to find the right words you are looking for. You almost feel like an explorer traipsing through a thesaurus thanks to the interactivity of the app.
In addition to containing 145,000 English words, the app also features 39,000 proper nouns and American and British word pronunciations. Visual Thesaurus is available as both a web app and a Mac/Windows app. The web app costs US$2.95 per month or $19.95 per year. I opted for choosing the actual Mac app, which costs $39.95. The advantage of the Mac app is that you don't need an internet connection to access the thesaurus, which is handy if you're like me and commonly take your MacBook to various non-connected places to write. Visual Thesaurus for the web requires Mac OS X 10.0 or higher, an internet connection and a web browser. Visual Thesaurus for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.0 or higher.

Переслать - Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition II: 6 TB of low-cost storage
It's a great time to be in the market for mass storage for your Mac. Hardware manufacturers keep coming out with new solutions that either provide more speed (like SSDs) or greater capacity, and the prices keep coming down.
Western Digital is now shipping the My Book Studio Edition II, a two-drive enclosure filled with 6 TB (that's right, six terabytes) of RAID 0 storage and a quad-interface (FW800 / FW400 /eSata / USB2.0) for only US$549.99. That price is quite amazing, since the competing LaCie 4 Quadra array sells for almost $400 more. The My Book Studio Edition II takes advantage of WD's 3 TB Caviar Green drives, two of which are nestled into an enclosure. The product comes with a power adapter usable in the US, Canada and most European countries, FireWire 800 and USB cables, a FireWire 800/400 cable and a CD containing a user manual and a selection of software.
The My Book Studio Edition II drive comes pre-formatted for Mac OS X and can be reformatted for use with Windows 7. While the array comes set up as a 6 TB RAID 0 stripe set, it's possible to use it as a mirrored pair (RAID 1) of 3 TB drives. For those who are looking for redundant storage, the RAID 1 solution makes a lot of sense. If it's raw storage capacity that you want, RAID 0 is the way you'll want to go -- just be sure to buy a second array for backup purposes.

The 1.2.2 update adds compatibility with WebM/VP8, compressed MKV files and FFv1 lossless video formats. Perian 1.2.2 requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later. But users of older Mac OS versions are forewarned -- this is the last version of Perian that will support PowerPC Macs or any Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 and below. Переслать - Apple will be the first $1 trillion company
"A million dollars isn't cool. You know what's cool? A
billiontrillion dollars."If there's one company that will hit a trillion dollar market cap, it will be Apple, according to USA Today. Apple could do it in the next three years. USA Today came up with Apple's trillion dollar market cap based on its five-year geometric mean average increase of 59% a year. So given today's market value of about $310 billion, if Apple continues to increase in value by 59% each year, in 2014, we'll have the first trillion dollar company. How huge is that? The most valuable company ever was Microsoft in 2000. That year it hit a $604 billion market cap.
So, could Apple beat Microsoft's value in its best year by more than 65%? My money is on Apple (and has been since November of 2002 when I started buying the stock). The way I look at it is that Apple has its hands in three primary markets: computers, smartphones and tablets. The first market is fairly maxed out -- there's not a lot of room for the market as a whole to grow -- but since Apple only has around 10% of that market, it still has lots of space to grow in it. The inverse is true for smartphones and tablets. Apple is a key player in both those markets, but each of those markets still has decades of growth in front of them, which means that even if Apple doesn't hold a lead spot, it still has tremendous room for the growth of its products in those markets.

Переслать - Apple hires Microsoft Data Center manager
You can add even more kindling to the rumor fire burning around Apple's new data center in North Carolina. AllThingsD reports that the company picked up Kevin Timmons as a new employee; he's been working as Microsoft's Manager of Data Center services since 2009. Microsoft confirmed that he left this week, and while it's unclear exactly where he's headed, rumor has it that he'll be with the gang in Cupertino.
Timmons also worked in a similar role at Yahoo!, so he seems like the perfect candidate to help kick off a new cloud service for Apple, if indeed that's what the company is working on. Of course, rumors have been flying for a long time about some type of data center-based service around iTunes or some other, but we'll have to wait a little while longer (probably WWDC?) to see just what Apple (and now Mr. Timmons) is working on.

Переслать - iCade iPad arcade cabinet one step closer to late May release
It's almost here! Sources report that Ion Audio's iCade arcade cabinet for the iPad has passed FCC approval, just in time for the planned release on May 31. The cabinet was originally seen as an April Fool's Day joke on ThinkGeek, but in the past few years, it's steadily moved towards reality and will soon be available for US$100 from that site, along with partners Ion Audio and Atari, who've already released over 100 retro games that are ready to be played on it.
One interesting note: the cabinet will apparently be powered not just by the dock connector on the iPad, but with two AA batteries as well. That's only a minor inconvenience (and a small price to pay for having a fully-working set of arcade buttons and a joystiq to play iPad games with), so it shouldn't stop retro-loving iPad gamers from grabbing this one when it finally becomes real at the end of May.

RIM is aiming to launch its PlayBook tablet on April 19, but reviews of this QNX-powered tablet started to hit the wire last night. The consensus among reviewers suggests the PlayBook will not threaten Apple's dominance in the tablet market.
Most reviews point to the lack of available applications for the tablet as one major detriment. The PlayBook will launch with a catalog of 3,000 applications, a figure derived from the number of developers that have submitted applications to the BlackBerry App World. This number was bolstered by RIM's promise to give a free PlayBook to each developer whose application is approved before the launch of the tablet device. RIM expects to expand this catalog with Android and BlackBerry OS emulators that let users run applications from the Android Market and the BlackBerry World. This feature will land later this year.
A small application catalog is one drawback to the BlackBerry, but there are more. Read on to find out what other issues reviewers encountered when using RIM's tablet device.

Переслать - Apple takes a bite out of PC market
For the first time in six quarters, worldwide shipments of personal computers declined during the first three months of 2011, according to reports from Gartner Inc. and International Data Corp. (IDC) released this week. Despite faltering demand for PCs, Apple enjoyed increased sales and market share compared to the year-ago quarter.
IDC's report indicated 80.6 million PCs shipped worldwide during the quarter -- a 3.2% decline from the same time last year. Gartner's figures showed sales dipped by 1.1% to 84.3 million units. In the United States, both firms agreed PC sales dropped from about 17 million units in the first quarter of 2010 to about 16.1 million PCs this year. Meanwhile, Apple watched its figures grow in the US, netting either 8.5% or 9.3% of the market -- a healthy jump from the 7% share the Cupertino-based company saw at the start of 2010.
Apple's iPad may have also taken a significant bite out of PC sales. IDC said tablets like the iPad, which weren't included in either reporting firm's PC shipment calculations, contributed to shrinking demand for more powerful -- and more expensive -- notebooks and desktops.

Переслать - Intel announces USB 3.0 in "Ivy Bridge" and will support Thunderbolt
"Intel is going to support USB 3.0 in the 2012 client platform. We're going to support Thunderbolt capability. We believe that they're complementary." CNET reported this remark from Kirk Sakaugen, a VP of the Intel Architecture group, in a presentation streamed from the Intel Developer Conference in Beijing. This dual-I/O support will arrive in the first half of 2012 with the rollout of the "Ivy Bridge" processor, which will be the next generation after the "Sandy Bridge" technology currently built into the the newest MacBook Pros.
This is the first time in ten years that Intel has built the most current USB technology into its processors. Currently Intel uses USB 3.0 in a small number of high-end motherboards, sourcing a component from NEC to make it work. USB 3.0 is ten times quicker than USB 2.0, topping out at a theoretical speed of 4.8 Gbps. Thunderbolt, in turn, beats out USB 3.0 easily; it allows transfers of data and DisplayPort video simultaneously at speeds of up to 10 Gbps on one cable.
Although nothing specific has been said about when Intel will integrate Thunderbolt technology, The Inquirer notes that the January launch of "Sandy Bridge" would have been the perfect time for Intel to build USB 3.0 into its silicon. By dragging its heels, the company may be promoting the integration of Thunderbolt. Currently Apple is the only computer maker using Thunderbolt, but AMD as well as Intel have said they will eventually include Thunderbolt support.

Переслать - The unanswered questions about Jobs, Schmidt and iOS features
I'm in the midst of reading Steven Levy's book about Google, In the Plex, and I was fascinated with the account of Steve Jobs hiding the iPad's development from Google CEO Eric Schmidt while Schmidt was sitting on the Apple board. We noted this striking example of corporate confidentiality last week.
Jobs was reportedly angry with Google for allegedly ripping off iPhone features, like pinch to zoom that eventually wound up in the Android phone.
Eventually, Schmidt stepped down from his position on the Apple board, and the rest is history. Or maybe not.... Our former colleague Nilay Patel, ex of Engadget, says in his personal blog that the story can't be that simple. First, he says Apple didn't have a patent on pinch to zoom until October of 2010. The Android G1 shipped in October 2008, and it didn't have pinch to zoom, but it finally made it to the Google Nexus One in February 2010. Now all Android phones have the feature.

Переслать - Scroll Reverser brings Lion, iOS reverse scrolling to Snow Leopard
One of the more surprising features of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion has been the change to reverse scrolling. With reverse scrolling, your hand actually moves up to scroll down a page. This is contrary to the common method of scrolling that is used in most major operating systems, where the hand moves down to scroll down. Reverse scrolling is used on iOS devices, where it feels very natural -- it's like you're moving a piece of paper up and down in a frame to reveal the content on it.
While reverse scrolling can be turned off in Lion through System Preferences, many developers who are beginning to work with the Lion developer preview find that they prefer this very iOS-like way of interfacing with their Macs. Those developers are at a disadvantage when they switch back to earlier versions of Mac OS X -- they basically have to remember what OS they're working with and make a mental switch to the proper scrolling direction. Now, developer Nick Moore has created a small utility to reverse the scrolling on Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6.
Scroll Reverser (free) adds a menu bar item allowing the direction of scrolling to be toggled. That's perfect for developers who want to keep their Macs as Lion-like as possible, but would like the ability to go back to the tried-and-true direct scroll when necessary.
If you aren't a developer and would like to get a taste of what reverse scrolling feels like, download the utility and give it a try.

Переслать - Apple a part of $75B civil rights, fraud lawsuit
Apple is a defendant in an unusual lawsuit that accuses the company of "outrageous and reckless and extreme acts against the plaintiff, with the massive theft of the plaintiff's copyrighted works, grossing millions if not billions of dollars."
The plaintiff, David Louis Whitehead, filed his claim in US District Court in the Western District of Arkansas and is asking for US$75 billion in relief and another $5 billion in damages. Whitehead has a long list of earlier lawsuits and cites many of these cases in this current filing.
The suit takes a turn for the weird when you look at the eclectic group of defendants cited by Whitehead. The list contains businesses, celebrities, banks and Hollywood studios. Even the current President and former Presidents of the United States were cited because they supposedly appointed judges to thwart Whitehead's legal actions.
Besides Apple, Whitehead also lists Oprah Winfrey, Mike Meyers, Mel Gibson, Viacom, Disney, Bank of America, Comcast, Microsoft and more in this frivolous lawsuit. The reasons for Apple's inclusion in this lawsuit were not mentioned, and Apple has not commented on this lawsuit.

Переслать - Apple releases Xcode 4.0.2 (4A2002a) to developers
How doth Apple's Xcode 4
Improve each shining Hour,
And offer enhancements every day
For every Developer! How skilfully Apple builds its tools!
How neat it I.D.E's
And labours hard to make it well
With the sweet SDKs she releases. In Works of Labour or of Skill
I would be busy too:
For Developers find some Mischief still
For idle Hands to do.In Books, or Work, or healthful Apps
Let my first Years be past,
That I may give for every Day
Some released code at last.-- Isaac "now an Apple Developer" Watts, 1715
